The bridle I ordered for my horse arrived and didn't fit- Its a weird shape i think as the main bits fitted but it was tight on the ears and the throat lash didn't do up without choking him so its gone back!

A while ago chatting to my instructor about Ziggy, she asked if he lunged nicely and what I'd lunge in. She said she has a preference for a leather, as opposed to nylon well fitting cavasson. Would a Miklem kill two birds here? A lunge cavasson but also something i can ride (possibly) or at least ride and lead with?

If so how does the sizing work? I see small, medium and large horse. It would be for Zigs who wears a full size HC and Henry James bridle but adjusted with a room to go bigger, so not huge and Uni who is a bog standard 16.1 TB

Medium Horse?
Or are they awful!

Edited, I got the sizes wrong then. Large, small and standard- I'm thinking standard?!

i have the micklem combination bridle, on a section D who is usually cob size head - with plenty of room to go up or down, her old bridle fits beautifully and needed no different sizes adding etc. she has the small horse micklem, and it fits but only just! would definitely go bigger rather than smaller.

I’m not sure I know anyone close enough to borrow any more, a friend used them on all hers but moved away. Could golfing out what sizes she has on who actually, that might give a closer idea.
They have them on offer at Go
outdoors/Naylors which has a store not a million miles away so returning wouldn’t be too awful

I have a 16hh Crabbet Arabian gelding. I bought him a medium-sized one, which fitted well.
After a while, I decided that I preferred an "ordinary" bridle, which I created from "mixing and matching" various parts of a standard bridle, and gave the Micklem one away to a friend.

The only way to know is to try it
As has been said, go up a size, but even when they're the 'right' size they might still be the wrong shape
I got the biggest one for my chunky cob and still had to get a saddler to put a longer bit on for the back of the noseband

i hadn’t even thought about this but what a good (but obvious) idea!😂 will have to do this with mine, since i have a belt i’ve been meaning to take to the cobblers to shorten anyway🤣🤭
