Last Wednesday I rode my horse out for 45 mins then put him to bed in his stable put his feed in and he normally wolfs it down ..... however he didn't touch it at first then started picking at it and then kicking at is belly with his back legs. So I called the vet out as he s had spasmodic colic quite badly last year.

Anyway while I was waiting for her to come out he started eating his hay ( I had taken his feed out by now ) and when she arrived she listened to his stomach and even with out the stethoscope you could hear gut sounds and we agreed it was probably mild gassy colic so she gave him some buscopan and pain relief and said no hard feed for 24hrs.

So next morning I went up to turn him out and he seemed much better went cantering down the field and seems to have been fine ever since.

Previously he was out 24/7 on 1 feed a day but due to the amount of rain the big field he was in flooded and farmer asked to keep horses off it so he had to come in at night and go out on a smaller paddock in the day, I am guessing this change in management may have triggered the colic ? but unfortunatly I didn't have a choice, however when he has had colic episodes in the past nothing in his routine has changed so I am wondering if there is something else that could be triggering it ?

Any ideas
