My horse had a accident in the field a few weeks ago and had a wk of pain relief and antibiotics for a cut she recieved. Last weekend I noticed that it was still mildly swollen and the scab looked a little infected. Spoke to my vet who said to keep an eye on it this week and keep it clean and see if her body will fight the infection. Nearly a week after her cannon is still mildly swollen and I would say it looks mildly gooey under the scab.

Can anyone shed any advice in to what to do next?

Thanks x

Vet, antibiotics....probably a mild infection and a bit of cellulitis, best to nip it now rather than risk it get worse.

Bathe with salty warm water and get the scab off to see whats going on underneath. That will release any pus and its advice given to me my vet a long time ago, never failed. Any blood that flows will flush the wound out too. See if your vet recommends further anti biotics, your horse may need stronger ones if its turned into cellulitis.
