When I first got Henry I was searching the forum for posts on weight gain and I came across a couple of posts from a member or two who swore by babies milk powder. It's always puzzled me on the quantities fed-so I was just wondering...can anyone shed any light, as it's something I regularly ponder over lol

What else have you tried? Milk powder really is a very last resort.

yes i have heard milk powder puts weight ont. the soft and soak range do a feed with milk powder and a lot of other stuff for weight gain and that is brill stuff!

Ok, thanks for that. I can remember the post and the member used to buy it from the chemist out of date.

I'm not having any weight issues with any of mine, was just wondering as it always seems to get me thinking again when I see cow&gate adverts on tv or the formula in the supermarket. I just always wondered if it was a few of the provided scoops or if you needed masses of it, with horses being so much bigger than babies, or if horses utilise it differently, hence needing less, etc etc

Little Donkey-Henry was PTS last year, I'm not looking for weight gain feeds as such, just trying to quench my curiousity lol

I don't *think* milk products (pellets or powder) should be fed to any horse over 2yrs old. Something to do with them being unable to absorb the calcium.

Someone on my yard feeds milk pellets meant for cattle to her very old horse who doesn't have any teeth for weight gain.

I guess your best bet would be to speak to a qualified nutrionalist for advice on feedstuffs.
