ok, hi!
i've just had an ex livery on the phone in a panic - her mare has changed shape and is producing milk..........!
the story so far is, she only bought the mare 3 weeks ago! Bought from a lady who does run a stud (so stallions around). She was stabled with us for 3weeks but moved yards on saturday to be closer to home as it was taking her over an hour to get to us. So she has changed surroundings quite a bit in recent weeks, she was out in the day until she moved at weekend and is now in 24/7.
The vet came last friday to do her jabs and did comment about her shape, and said she has a big ribcage. (mare looks quite poor as if she needs building up, vet thought its just the way the mare is and it wont improve)
Soooooooooo
what do we all think? Is it likely a mare would have a phamton this time of year and produce milk?? could she be expecting?
The girl says she is going to call the vet in the morning but at the moment is in sheer panic. The saddler came out today and apparently the mare has turned into a grumpy cow.
i've advised her to get her new YO to do a late night check if poss and also that IF she thinks that she is going to have a baby overnight - not to put all of the rugs on her!
