Hi, I'm looking to send my mare to Mill Law for AI. I'm off to see him this weekend but wondered if anyone else had used him, knew him etc? I know he's very popular! His temperament sounds spot on.

Yes we have a 3yo by him and then sadly lost our what would have been yearling by him. He belongs to a relative but that made us even more picky when choosing. His temperament is fab and we've been so pleased with ours. The youngstock certainly perform - you'll probably get a big bay with big ears!!!

What swung us, is I had my horse there for a lesson, went past "a horse tied up having its mane pulled" and tied mine next to him. Just tacked up etc, didn't pay much attention to the one next to us a mare was brought in from the field and tied up next to mine as well.

Well the one having its mane pulled was Noddy (mill law) and he was just falling asleep in the sun and didn't bat an eyelid with the others etc.

I think a lot of the youngsters have been quite sharp - ours would be and i know run of the mill is. But sharp and kind if that makesense.

I nearly post the very same post earlier!

No idea sorry but i'm sure plenty here will have some info for you

That was him as a yearling, think that was the great yorkshire so he was only just 1 as he was a late foal. He's HUGE now!!

My mare is currently being AI'd by him. She hasn't taken yet but my vet thinks that may be because of her rather than him. I've been using chilled and keeping my mare at home but he has very high fertility with fresh if you take your mare to Twemlows.
I chose him because of his competition record, his temperament and his conformation (I'd say he's quite compact) and that he is smaller than my mare. She's 17.2 so hope to get something of a more sensible size. He's also got youngstock which are out proving themselves which is a good sign that he stamps his stock

coedcae - ours is 16.1hh as a 3yo and still growing out of a 15.3hh mare!!! good luck!!!

He's lovely though and i'm sure your mare will take soon.....exciting times!

Oh no

That's huge

I hope she does take but to be honest I'm not overly optomistic

If she does it sounds like we may be in for a whopper

He's lovely by the way, a real stunner. Are you going to keep him?

Would you consider sending him to Twemlows? They were very good both times our mare went there as you say fresh is more fertile.

Well we have his half sister and can only really keep one but we'll keep them both until next year so we have a 4yo and 5yo to do the BYEH on and then work out which one to sell, they couldn't be more different!

Both have fabulous temperaments but 1 is grey and 15.1hh then Spider is bay and BIG!!!

We have loose jumped them both and can't decide which is better so have to wait till he's being ridden to choose!

Got my first foal by him 2 weeks ago out of my ADV TB mare looks really nice but a bit weak yet (maiden mare at 16) think he,ll be fine he was maybe a bit squashed in there he's quite tall and leggy.
She's going back to him this time.

Yes, that was the plan to send her to Twemlows but she never shows when she's in season. I had her scanned and suddenly she needed to be done the next day. It was too much to up and shift her that night but she didnt take anyway. And then this time vet thinks she's conceived but is losing it

So looks like there may be a problem with her. Trouble is she is not a very settled horse and I think she may be a stress head if taken up there. Will see, she's being scanned again next week and then I'll make the decision

See my post above - that's a Mill Law. I tried 3 times in 2005 with chilled and his semen just doesn't travel, my vet showed me under the microscope. It cost me a lot of money. She went to him last year and took 2nd time with fresh.

eventing_chick - ours was very crumpled when he came out and right up on his toes looking a bit gangly, he keeps going through really weak looking times but eachtime he evens up you get a taste of what you're getting and its good!

Thanks TE, that's interesting. The vet thought the quality of semen looked good down his microscope and it was only 5 hours from collection to insemmination last time but as you say it's costing me a fortune using my vet so I think I will take her up next week. That's useful to know, thank you

Thanks ever so much for the advice and pics. I'm seeing him tomorrow and hopefully will take our mare down in June. She's TB x Appaloosa and is quite sharp with a huge jump n nice paces. I'm looking for something that has a great temperament, good legs and a good jump. A big bay with big ears is fine, I've already got two!

Tinkerbee - i cannot imagine Michelle having a non chestnut spot on horse!!! Which stallion does she normally use? Ink Spot?

Our Mill Law 3yo is at Hambleton show this weekend up in North Yorkshire - Sue Browne is taking him as he's been with her for the last 8 months now. She has decided he's a good advert so will be shown with hers!!! They've had some cracking foals.

I have a three year old by him and couldn't be happier, if I was to have my mare put in foal again, it would be to him. She went to Twemlows and they were superb there as well. Great horse, lovely temperament, a total sweetheart

Yes, Ink Spot, but he has died..

and also this is second generation spot ons

its Jazz's first foal

My mare has just been scanned in foal to him, was a bit worried as the semen travelled (4 hours) and was only 40% motility. Was getting ready to take her up to Twemlows if she hadnt taken this time! Thankfully she has

awww will have to go and see!!

My Mill Law 3yo went reserve champion at East of England this weekend and was placed at Bramham and Hambleton so we're all v pleased with him at the moment!! He's a sharp cookie though!
