Milo has now been sold and has been with his new owner for three weeks - seriously loved by all. Her mum is looking after the wound and sent me the most recent photo yesterday. Another month and I think it will be just a line scar.

The original wound is believed to have been caused by wire. The horse was on total box rest for 6 weeks and was never lame. The wound was initially treated with Activated Manuka Honey, dressing changed daily and washed with saline, sprayed from a pump spray. Once sufficient proud flesh had grown the wound was treated with a saturated solution of Copper Sulphate. Area around and below the wound were coated with vaseline and the wound painted with the Copper Sulphate.

The frequency of this treatment depended on the level of the proud flesh. Once the flesh was level with the surrounding tissue the treatment was halted until the proud flesh again became higher than the surrounding skin.
