I always respected his owners, Caroline's parents, for refusing to allow him to be taken to the Seoul Olympics. They took an awful lot of stick for it, and got a Nations Cup ban, but he was just too precious to them after losing Caroline.
Saw Milton at a show locally before he was a name. He was stunning, made everyone stop and stare even then. Can't remember the class, more then likely a newcomers.
I was at a show and watched Caroline who was loading her horse after a class then sweeping the droppings off the ramp and working like mad never a thought to chase the grooms up to do the job.
I remember Milton’s final public appearance at Olympia or HOYS can’t remember which. I was a snotty wreck after he’d done a lap of honour under a spotlight to Simply the Best.
I was in awe of Caroline at HOYS in 1980 out checking her horses late at night when a group of us were staggering back to lorries from a nightclub! To teenage me is showed how dedicated she was.
She was my idol as a child. There used to be a big horse show at Vauxhall motors sports ground in Luton. One year (probably late 70s) I got her autograph on the programme but I’ve no idea what happened to it.
what a contrast to see Milton in an eggbut snaffle compared to some of the contraptions I saw on the show jumpers at Hickstead last week.
