Mimosa is coming along so nicely as a ridden horse. She’s lovely and relaxed in a walk and trot. She’ll stretch down and hack on the buckle, and she just seems to take everything in her stride. Well, except for one instance where she stood on a costa coffee cup and it popped under her foot - she shot about five foot into the air, poor thing, but points to her as she settled immediately afterwards. And points to me as I sat it ?

She had her feet done by a new trimmer (post in the vet forum) and was a star, despite her short attention span and insistence on grooming the poor woman’s hair while her front feet were being done. I did remember not to put bright pink sunblock on her nose that morning so the trimmer avoided an unexpected hair dying situation.

We are doing a lot of walking in hand, and I’m riding a few times a week. I still really enjoy walking with her (I’m loving how much fitter I am!) so I my plan is to walk all new routes and then ride them when she’s familiar with them.

Some Mim photos from this week; grooming my knees while I’m reading in the field, looking araby, sunrise snoozes, walking in the village and looking exceptionally elegant in her fly mask.

Milagra is such a saint of a horse, she really is a super star. She’s so patient with Mim, who has the energy of a Labrador puppy. Her mouth doesn’t appear to be worse and she’s still looking better and better the longer she’s here.

Still no decision on surgery / no surgery from her owner so I am working on the basis of providing the best possible supportive care and getting her as fit and healthy as she can be. Her mouth isn’t worse (sometimes I think it looks less angry and ‘bubbly’ but I could be deluding myself.) She’s off all feed, and on grass 24/7 which I think really suits her. Her sweet itch has improved no end and all the points that she had rubbed raw have now filled in with hair. She actually doesn’t rub more than any other horse does at the moment. Time will tell if I can keep managing her like this during winter.

She is doing lots of pole work with raised poles and I’ve ridden her a couple of times now, in a micklem multi-way with the side pull bitless option. She’s really lovely in it but I think she’d go nicely for you in a double bridle or a headcollar- she’s that sort of horse.

I have found that she is extremely stressy when she feels she might have done something wrong. She ran out of some poles on the lunge (I didn’t do a great job of bringing her in) and then had a meltdown. I think she was expecting a reaction from me- her eyes were rolling and she was completely tensed up. Of course, I didn’t react and asked her to do it again. She did, no problem and I gave her a fuss and a break after that. Quite sad really.

So we are sort of in limbo with her, and I’m not really able to make a call until her owner does. Just a waiting game really, which I think I’m ok with that until it’s obvious to me that she’s unhappy.

Here are some photos;

They both (and Rio!) seem very happy with you, and completely settled in the 'new' field. It looks like Milagra is having a lovely semi-retirement, enjoying her time with Mim, and with you keeping an eye out for her health.

Such gorgeous horses, Mimosa is impossibly pretty, and sounds like such a sweet girl. ? She's one of my HHO favourites. I don't think you can get much more beautiful than a palomino Arab! I'm glad that Milagra has a lovely home in her twilight years, she sounds such a poppet. Her teeth must be such a worry, but she looks great for her age. I hope she is with you for some time yet, enjoying a good quality of life.
