Hey.

Was asked by a few peeps to do a report on our dressage holiday so here it is. I put some pics from Richard lesson in too (all be it a week late but Ive been busy with work trying to pay for it all!)

We went for a overnight trip to Adam Kemp and Matt frosts for 2 lessons. It was the first time Loopy Lilly (ex racing pony) had stayed away from home so I was a bit **insert wobbly faced smiley** about the whole thing!!

We got there and found their new rooms and watched a few posh ponies and then was a bit  but figured as she goes on the bit (sometimes!) that she must be a dressage horse and would be fine! Tacked up and Im not sure if it was because she had been in a box for a bit if it reminded her of racing but she was super lit up. We passaged the whole way to the indoor school! I was like see we can do this dressage shizzle :D:rolleyes::D Got in the arena and 2 big pony club kicks meant pony we were in work mode!!

Went into see Adam, who watched for a bit and then said she needed to be more off my leg, less choppy, more supple so we spent a while doing some normal leg yeilding and moving up to extreme leg yeilding! Also playing with bending her loads more than I would do at home in order to make her more supple. At first she found it hard and got a bit stressy about it, thus making it harder, hence more stress and then going "ohhh I get it, appologies" We also worked at getting her more into my hand as she tends to get a bit airy in it.

Heres some fuzzy pics of that day (and a bit of almost matchy!)

Then I sorted her out, put her to bed (in her barbie pony rug)

and showered and got clean, then dinner and wine drinking comenced!

The next day, after watching more posh ponies strut their stuff we tried again. There was no passaging down to the arena! We worked on trying to get her going in the medium trot as she tends to just run off in a sewing machiney kinda way! Adam says I need to let her get used to running bigger in the trot as I have spent the last year telling her to be sensible in the trot and he wants her to get moving through her shoulders more. She had fun :D Then we worked on making her more consistant in my hand, in a more grown up way and when shes inconsistant in the hand getting my leg on to push her through it.

Here are some pics of the second day...

Heres a little video of the second day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfNrbeLQZ2g

All in all it was a fab trip. Hes such a lovely teacher and even though we clearly suck at dressage he inspires you to put the dressage tack on and go in the school and try and get better!!

Then we had 1 day at home and went off to the jumping fun bit with Richard Waygood!

She was awesome and sensible and I really enjoyed it as did loops!

Happy pony hearts jumping!!

Then there was a very spooky filler (which we saw a fair few horses stop alot of times) I didnt know what she would think of it but she didnt even think of stopping. I like this picture as you can see in her face she is a teeny bit worried but she didnt even think about not doing it.

She did give it rather a large amount of space though!!

Then it went up

and after we did a corner, which I fluffed a few times as was jumping the middle, hence the wing in the middle of it (because I wasnt jumping it near the tip enough so HAD too to avoid the wing!!)

Bless her. Richard said she needs to be more in the hand too so thats both of them! At least I can work on the same stuff!! I was so proud of her though, my poor manky pony that when I showed Adam the before picture of her (looking terrible) he said it looked like she was being led into potters!! Who knew she would end up such fun! Love her tons!

Anyways sorry for the essay and the fuzzy pictures, I only have some orange kitkats on offer but they are pretty tasty!!

Vicki :)

She's so pingy- I love her hindlegs in the first spotty filler photo, so cute and neat! And her trot :O Wow! If anyone dares ay TBs don't move well, I think we need to send you and PS round to trample them into submission because she looks like she's floating :) Are you eventing her this year?

Aww thanks :)

Depending how her brain is she might go and do a 80 at somepoint. Im just trying to be careful as Im a bit out of practice and she is a hot person at parties so Im just going slowly in a hopeful attempt to not bu**er it (when I say it I mean her lol) up!!

I keep meaning to join BD but still havent got around to it!

1 other thing I forgot to say was that Lill had a refusal at a dressage horse at Adams!! This one that was doing some 1 time changes across the diaganal straight towards us!!! We *refused* from big trot and Lills eyes were out on stalks at the huge skipping horse!! It was a bit funny!!

She looks extra-lovely in that 'big trot' :D What did you do to get her going forwards and stretching out into that, as opposed to going like lightening legs? Struggling with Wilby's mediums and every little bit of advise can help!

Great report and pictures, you both look very smiley in them :). You should definitly join BD! You can see the difference in her trot from the first day pictures to the second day pictures which shows how useful that clinic must have been.
I love the picture of her jumping the brush, what a clever girl. Shes gorgeous, your doing a really good job :)

She looks fab! Same question as PS, I'd love to do something like that (maybe next year when his left canter catches up with his right canter! We'd be laughed off the property at the moment!)
Were the lessons individual or group? Was it one a day?

If you google Adam Kemp / Matt Frost they have a website that explains what they offer.
It was on my list to ask you about a possible RC weekend?

ETA: Sorry OP for hijak! Glad you had a good time :)

Sounds like a most excellent plan N! Def worth asking them if they would take a group of us, i'd be keen I'm sure!

Thanks for everyones nice words about her :) :) :) :)

Adam said I just had to let her run on in the trot so she gets used to going faster again! He thinks about 3 months of running around and then we should be able to stop the running and have a more correct medium. Fingers crossed! He said 1 year slowing a ex racehorse down, 6 months speeding it up again and 6 months to do both!!!

she looks awesome, really lovely :)

do you mind pm'ing me how much it cost, would love to go to adams at some point xxx

We should go together! Were planning to go again in October ish hopefully?!?!?! Lessons from Adam are £70 and its £30 to stay a night with the pony, food etc.

I LOVE YOUR RUG!!!!! Lovely pics and well done but seriously i WANT your rug :D
Q

It is a very pink rug!! She still isnt quite smart enough to pull it off, but nearly lol. It looked lovely on my black mare :)
