First mini rant on the forum..

I am selling a horsebox at the mo, and I'm sick of people calling and saying they will come and see it. Today I have waited for over 2 hours for someone to come, meaning I missed my riding lesson! GG goes out at 12.30

Is it that hard to call somone and say you arent coming/you changed your mind?!

Also I have had some horrific timewasting experiences whilst looking for horses. Once I did a 2 hour drive to see a "show hunter" I asked on the phone does the horse have any blemishs. Response "No, she will do great in the show ring"
On arrival, I looked at the horse, got in my car and went home.

The horse had a scar from the hock to its fetlock. Now dont get me wrong i'm not snobby to a horses appearance, but when your looking at a 4k horse with a HUGE scar down the leg its crazy! Dealers!

Anyone else had bad experience with timewasters or having their time wasted?

I hate that mine is a 3.5t!

I thought it would sell well mind you, in five hours time I might be smiling maybe they are all waiting for last min bids.

yup have experienced time wasters buying and selling horses but im afraid its just part and parcel of everyday life you get them in all walks of life.

Its not just you.

We are waiting in today for someone who bought our car on ebay.

He won the auction last weekend and said he would be here on Saturday. Then a few days ago, he thought to ask which part of the uk we live in, (it was clearly stated on the advert).

He has been very vague and hard to get hold of. He was supposed to leave Birmingham 9am this morning, to travel down to us in the South East, and said he would call on the way - so far we have heard nothing...

So I really doubt that he is coming at all! What a timewaster - I just hope that the next highest bidder will still be interested.

Good luck!

But what is a timewaster?
We recently spotted a pony we liked the look of on a website. It has been withdrawn though (though the ad is still there?!) apparently due to timewasters they have decided to keep him.
Seems a tad unfair on the pony as they state they don't have a jockey.
I did wonder about pming them and asking them if they were adamant, but I'm afraid their 'toys out of pram' attitude put me off. If I go to see the pony and don't want it because it's c*ap, overpriced, unsound, insane or all of the above, will that make me a timewaster?
I totally agree with the OP about people not turning up, that is absolutely timewasting. But I think with some sellers, they get confused between time wasting and rejection!

I've just, today found a lovely home for the LR pony I was advertising. This is a perfect kids pony, through and through, gentle soul, done PC, busy shows, heavy traffic etc and is so trustworthy.

It's taken me 6 weeks of timewasters to place her. Not rejections, more people getting in touch, asking questions, more questions and faffing, then booking to come and see, then changing it, then either never getting in touch again, or cancelling.

She was for loan, so wasn't a price issue, she is a perfect LR, with manners, and good breeding, good enough to show (she is genuinely a stunner), and so kind. The first people who turned up to actually see her, just about took my arm off, and I can confidently let her go knowing everything I told them was true - she is a real gold dust type. She won't be getting sent back in disgrace - if anything there will be tears in a couple of years when they have to part with her.

Timewasters have driven me mad - I don't know what they were looking for, because for a LR pony, I'm confident they couldn't have found any that were better! Ponies of her sort are being advertised for around 4k.

Hi Skewbald,

I think if you are a seller and you are honest and have sensible prices its fine to accept when someone doesnt want your horse. However a classic example is saying yes i'll have him and i'll pick him up and they they never show. Or even worse, people that just go for a free ride on a really nice horse.

I sort of did this once, by accident! I was at a viewing evening and there was a horse that was described as jumping new comers but has had 2 years off, just been brought back into work. The horse was 12, so I thought he might off been in my price range. I spoke to the owners and they insisted that I rode the horse, after 15 min I was in love. When I asked the price they said 12k - Opps. I quickly got off! Motto - Always as the price first!

I have considered pulling an ad before now due to timewasters. A timewaster is someone who arranges to come and view a pony and then doesnt turn up. I am pretty ceertain that there are people who do this for 'fun', because I had two people leave numbers which I called when they didnt turn up and the numbers were unrecogniseable. Some websites seem to attract more of this kind of idiot than others.

Standing about for hours on end waiting for prats that have no intention of coming after telling your children that someone is coming to view their beloved (but outgrown) pony is infuriating and upsetting.

I imagine for some it's just easier to keep the pony as a companion or sell it locally.

I take your point, Charlie, but this pony is about 10 mins from us! What I didn't like was that they had edited the ad with this flounce, but not withdrawn it. It seemed petulant to me.
I'm about to sell my daughters' first pony, we've had him for nine years, and it's breaking everyone's hearts. So I'm interested in this thread, I don't think we could bear it if people messed us around like that!
We're hoping he'll go locally through PC though, as he is an absolute character.

tell me about blimmin time wasters!!!! warning rant comming............................
about a month ago I saw a lovely looking sec c which sounded perfect for my son, it was for loan with view to sell. The owner arranged to come and see our yard, so I waited a week for her to come, she turned up picked holes into every little thing and basically made me feel crap- anyway, she said she would loan him and I liked the sound of this pony so decided to go and see him. but she said she wasnt available for 2 weeks so we waited 2 weeks, turned down others in the mean time and drove all the way down to somerset with the trailer as previously agreed. We were told he would be suitable for lead rein pony club etc etc and loved jumping etc. so when we finally got there after weeks of waiting, he was severely overweight and lame, dead to leg and hand, could barely walk let alone jump!!! she knew he was lame yet didnt think to inform us until we got there!!! then said he better not go if he is lame!!!! i could not believe it, what a waste of a month getting my hopes up about 'the one'!!!!! She hasnt had the cheek to contact me sice (she said she would when he comes sound!) dont want to know anyway-we have found a perfect 15hh for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
