mini rant

yeh we could do that, thankfully the horses arnt bothered its me that is lol
we have done all-sorts of things in the past to stop them but to no avail, people that live along the back of the field even put gates at the ends of their gardens so they could just walk in to the field !!!!
we went along and weird them up and said they are not aloud to do that and they moaned !!! like i said earlier perhaps i should walk around their gardens and see how they like it lol !!!!

We had one running across our old field, we fenced it off with electric fencing and signs. This was because as soon as someone climbed over the style they would let their dogs off and they would chase the horses! So we electrified the fencing both lines of tape (one strategically put at dog height). Funny enough after a month everyone would keep their dogs on leads, even after we took it down.

i am another one voting for electric fence (1 strip to shock people 1strip to shock dogs)

2 option sit there all day with a GOOD bb gun (ive been shot before playing in a farmers field never did it agin)

3 get a cattle prod and run after them like a raving luney(sp)

lol good luck i hope you manage to sort it as i am sure it is Very annoying

Your easiest option would be to ask the definitive map officer at your local county council for the public footpath to be diverted around the edge of the field as you could then fence it off with horse/dog proof fencing.

Stles are now on the way out due to the access to the countryside for disabled people. They are all having to be replaced by approved gates at the landowners expense.

It is illegal to electric fence along a public right of way. Any electric fencing must be a minimum of 3 metres from it.

You also have a duty of care for anyone on your land (legally or illlegally).

I used to walk along a right of way to get to my field, there were often cattle and a huge bull in there, and although nothing ever happened I always walked right next to the hedge ready to throw my then, very small, daughter over if he got too close.

When I phoned the local NFU to enquire about bulls I was told that there are no restrictions on grazing beef bulls with cows at all, but dairy breeds tend to be more aggressive and are not allowed to be grazed on public rights of way.

When I asked what happened if the bull did make trouble etc, he said and I quote because it is engraved in my memory "Oh, if he charges THEN you can complain! Stupid rule isn't it, but there you go"

Walkers used to drive me mad, the path went around one short side of my field to the mountain, people still walked much further straight across to get to the other mountain gate. I stopped that though by running goats, a large, horned breed, in the field, a whole herd of them, complete with extremely affectionate (he loved to rub on you) but horrendously smelly billy goat. Eau de rampant billy goat sticks around for a long, long time, haha! There was a sign on the gate saying "Private Land....Footpath > that way"
