My sister is looking for a mini schnauzer bitch pup, they are after a pet with temperament being the most important thing. can anyone recommend a breeder in the midlands, tho they will travel for the right pup, even a pet having a litter.
They have been warned that there are quite a few dodgy breeders around that more or less puppy farm them and don't want to get involved with these breeders.
Thanks

Sorry can't help other than to say that min schnauzers can have quite hysterical temperaments and tend to be prone to problems like separation anxiety. They are not a terribly easy breed...

I would also say as the owner of two horizontal minis!!! That they are lovely laid back dogs.... I also know a fair few and have not known one to be at all hysterical

If you google The Kennell Club and get a list of their breeders then that is a start towards a reputible breeder.

The other thing that will separate the wheat from the chaff is to make sure they are registered with the KC and that they have current eye certificates for both the pups and the parents.

Good luck to her..... she will have a ball with a schauzer

I'm still quite incredulous that 'hysterical temperaments' was mentioned. I know quite a few mini schnauze (none quite as good as Beastie mind you

) and not once I have known what to have a temperament other than very laid back.

Certainly they left the above description off of the breed standard and any discription I have ever read..

Perhaps the poster above has known dogs like this though....

I don't let her read any threads involving her as her head would get too big

Very wise. Thankfully Popple is still too young to read

Gina, she is lovely, how old is she?
We had had a mini schnauzer many many years ago and really couldn't fault her temperament, my mother stills thinks she was the best dog she ever had, her portrait hangs on the livingroom wall, faulty ears and all!
My sister has been in touch with the mini schnauzer cub, it seems to be finding a reputable breeder that is a bit of a problem, even if they are Kennel club affiliated it dosen't mean a thing, she has been given a couple of names, but no bitch pups at the moment.
