Miniature horses - how to transport

We've always travelled ours in either a wagon or trailers with no issue whatsoever, we just tie their lead rope to a separated piece of twine through the tie up rings and they always find the most comfortable way to stand and never have issues with balancing themselves.

I travel my two Shetlands loose in a 3.5t with no partition, have done the same in a trailer and they've always been fine.

Is this legal? (or just a joke?) I thought all vehicles for transporting equines had to be specifically designed and built for them, re flooring, head heights, barriers/partitions/ventilation etc etc.

I used to stick the shetland into the nose-cone of the Rice trailer.

Need to make sure that the jockey door is secure, and your other horses aren't going to bite/kick, but it does get 3 kids to pony club in one cheap trailer.

When I first got mine I did use a small sheep trailer but I found it was too bouncy and hot and not large enough to stand in when it was raining. A normal box is the easiest option cause you won't have the hassle of van costs. If they get on well there is no need to tie I just do cause I have either a stallion and gelding in or a brood mares and don't want to risk them fighting.

I think for comedy value a 7.5T with lovely large living and a ramp arranged so it's looks as though they're walking out of a side locker.

But if you're feeling flash, you could have a mini trailer built on a small chassis. That would be cute. And actually quite a good idea as you could arrange breast bars rings etc. at the right height. Try and see if a trailer manufacturer will do one as an apprentice project or promo?

When I bought mine I brought them home in a trailer, plenty of straw bedding and untied, they were only 5 months old and travelled fine.

We wedged ours in the trailer with a couple of bales of hay, kept her upright after a major op and she had a snack too!

I have a extra low tie ring in my little 3.5 ton lorry. It's on the ramp side so the little rotter can't sneak under front of partition and nip who ever she is travelling with's knees

Not a miniature but when we had a Sec A foal we were showing we just had extra fixings to lower the breast and breech bars in a trailer and tied up with an long lead rope.

Aren't there laws now for travelling a dog in the back of a car or estate car without restraint? There certainly is for children.

If a car travelling at 30mph comes to an abrupt halt (e.g. a collision with an immoveable object such as a stone wall), the dog or pony in the back will coninue to travel at 30mph (Newton's Laws of Motion) until prevented. That's the reason for breast bars in a trailer.

Not sure I would want a mini Shetland bouncing off he back of my neck at any speed.
