Hi all
I've just entered the world of miniature horses!
Is there anyone who can offer some advise on showing?

She's incredibly dainty and currently has her head and neck clipped out.
The rest is a mass off fur!

Oo, there is definately a member on here who does/did miniature showing. I can't recall her name (I'm terrible with names!), but her pony generally looked like a bogbrush (was he nicknamed stinky or something like that?!) and then magically transformed (with lots of elbow grease I'm sure) into a gorgeous sleek little super star on show days. he was absolutely adorable and a credit to her hard work. I'm sure someone on here knows who I'm thinking of.

Welcome to the wonderful world of miniatures! Do be forwarned, they are addictive and one is never enough :p

Tell me all about your little one! I will be able to offer more advice that way.

My little bogbrush is a silver filly registered with BMHS and AMHA
She look rather odd at the moment as half her forelock was clipped off so now she has a bit of a punk look! Same with her mane
I'm not really sure where to start to be honest. We go out walking but she's so hairy I tend not to go to far as she sweats

Do I clip her and rug or just let her get nice and hairy for winter?
Do you show at all over the winter?

So many questions!

There are some shows over winter but not too many. Personally I'd be doing what your doing so you both get used to each other. Practice standing her up so judges can see her. Her mane and forelock should grow out and then when your ready to clip next year for showing it will be okay.

I'd look for local shows so you can give it a go but if she's bmhs and amha You will be eligible to take her to most of the big shows, right up to hoys.

What's her breeding?

Tell me about it Equi :) I'm currently trying to buy a second as company for my first.

I've also thought of showing mine but don't know where to start. She's well bred and beautifully marked chestnut paint. The stud who sold her due to loss of their land have asked me for first refusal if i sell her because they say she is one of the best they have ever bred. They were cross that the woman they sold her to sold her to me. She's called Libbyjo Graffiti (because of her markings, obviously).

I thought I might try Cheshire County with her next June, but I'm not really into showing so maybe I need to ask someone else to take her?

It's depends on what you want to do. I know from personal experience that the handling can take a few years to master - I only started winning big last year (same horse I had started with)

It's very fun to do and quite addictive too and because they are so teeny there is less pressure cause they're not really going anywhere lol you just have to practice standing and trot ups. If you got someone else to show her who's shown before then you would be able to see her potential which may encourage you to start yourself :)

What should I do at the moment? Let her get hairy or keep a bib clip to try and keep her a bit cooler when excersising?

She will be fine with a bib clip - i usually trace clip my mare and do some sort of funny half belly, thing for my gelding haha

Ok great! Now to master the art of mini clipping
Just out of interest what clippers do you use on your mini?

I bought my first one 5 years ago and absolutely adore them, now have three. I have never shown mine but did intend to drive but haven't really got round to it. One is definitely never enough.
