Brrrr - back home - been to yard - well skidded to yard, fed all the horses - why do some people still soak hay and leave it overnight in this weather? if i had dropped it on my toe it would have broken it - poor horse just looked at me.

Broke stable waters, and checked mine were all warm enough, skipped and put extra hay in - i expected a few complaints of the neddies - you know a run round the stable, bit of barging but no - they smuggled looked at the new pile of hay and carrot icepops and settled in for the morning.

Will go back bout 11 and turn out whilst i do all their beds - will turn all the banks today in preperation of a few Skip days over Christmas

Well my lad is out 24/7 and has access to a field stable but he was out in the snow and ice when I got there this morning. In fact he left the haylage I put up for him in his stable in preference to standing outside in the snow with a pile of hay!

just about to leave to get my mare in, she will be in the stable all day, although she does live out 24/7 I feel its so cold she deserves to be munching warm hay all day, she seemed to enjoy it yesterday, I groomed her in teh stable, only removing the bit of rug that I needed to groom (believe its called quartering?!) and got several laughs from other liveries who said only I could treat a Clydesdale like a thoroughbred!!

Well it is minus 6 here and we have a blizzard again!

Just received the following from my YO

"Don't want to worry you but your horse has grown Antlers"

I chucked out mine as normal, all they did is stop and eat their haylage by the gate. I find they are all very careful in icy conditions, but they go nuts the first day the ground thaws and they can have a proper run aroung!

Chavhorse: LOL!

I hate mine being in although once they know they're not going out they soon settle! They've been out for a few hours the past few days and have loved the snow! Skipped out and filled nets this am and made the decision to keep in although I feel so bad! One of mines arthritic and the other ones got a dodgy tendon I have to be careful of so prob for best! Seems worse today as grounds solid and the gateways in fields (where they spend a lot of their time!) is so rutted!

Minus 5 here this morning too. No snow though. Put my two out with hay and one container full of hot water to two cold in their water bucket. They are better out as the sun is out on the field and the stables are still in the shade.

Mine are stuck in this morning

It was sheet ice right up to the stable doors where the 8 inches of snow are melting and how even I managed to stay upright was beyond me. No way would the horses get down the hill to the field in one piece

Mine is stuck in still and has been since Friday, I hate it

Boys field is still too icy to get to, everyone else can turn out so a bit peeved about it

My own horses live out. The pony is like a polar bear all warm and fluffy but had ice on her back and in her tail!! She didn't mind, layers and layers of welsh A coat doesn't bat an eye lid at a bit of ice! The others are all warm and enjoying their hay.

The horses down at the yard are fine too, and after I threw salt/grit onto the yard could walk them out to their paddocks. All water buckets frozen, as it was -4! Will go back later to get them all in, hope we don't trip over in the frozen mud ruts mind!

My pony lives out - but I have moved him to the sick paddock today with lots of hay. He's normally a horror to lead but today as we walked across the drive which is like an ice rink he was so careful bless him.

My TB is currently out but I'm going back up to the yard soon to bring him in early.

ps - getting to the yard was, umm interesting - nothing like car ice skating to start the day! (and walking down the drive came to the conclusion that I think I need stabilisers!!)

I turned both my two out again and they are quite happily eating their haylage in the field. I am lucky in that allthough I do have a large area of hard standing outside the stables, I do not brush the snow off and they can then safely walk over it onto the grass beyond and then into the paddocks. My horses like to go out whatever the weather and they both have decent rugs on. I can't see the point of them staying in when it's like this. The time I will probably have to restrict the turnout for a while is when the thaw comes and the field gets a bit boggy for a while.
