On Wedneday my fine legged mare rolled in the indoor school and caught her hind leg on the gate resulting in the gate being unhinged. It is a big heavy metal gate so not an easy job to get it off. Within hours leg had swelled to a football. Envisaged big leg for weeks. Luckily the silo pit, where the muck heap is now, had flooded, so stood her in this for a couple of hours and then bandaged with fleece bandage for 2 days. Leg is back to normal except for a small graze. Have ever known anything like this, she is sound again and you would never know anyyhing had happened. Any explanations please?

I would imagine that the cold water, as you got in on her (or her in it!) quickly enough, would have helped to take down the inflammation. Easier than standing there with the hosepipe anyway!
