For anyone that hasn't read my previous posts, my beloved sec d had a nasty tendon injury from cutting himself out hunting back at the beginning of this year. His prognosis was guarded with only a 40% chance of recovering full soundness. We were advised 6 mnths box rest, controlled excercise and I had to inject with Adequan. The tendon was severley bowed, coupled with a nasty wound.
Well, the vet came out on Monday to re-assess, and his first comment was ''Which leg was it because I can't tell'', followed by ''blxxxdy hxll, this can't be the same horse''!
We then trotted him up to find him totally sound, (although I suspecetd he had already been sound for at least a month prior to this final assessment). The vet said there was no point in another ultrasound as it was obvious how well the leg was healed.
Althought it will probably be at least another 6-9 mnths of light work/turnout before we can put him back into 'normal' work the vet thinks we should be able to bring him back to competing next spring and have him hunting for 2009 season!
Anyhow, the point of all this is to give anyone else hope who is a similiar situation. 6 mnths ago we were considering pts but now we have our pony back. It has been a long hard 6 mnths, filled with many doubts and tears, but is now all worth it - to see the pony happily out grazing with his companions, and hopefully a positive future has been the greatest of all rewards.

thats fantastic news.!! sounds very promising for the future, good luck

that's great news, congratulations.
someone i knew years ago had a fab jumping pony that managed to slice clean through its front tendons out on a hack. first two vets there advised pts. she insisted on another opinion, found a vet who was willing to try... the pony eventually came back to full work, she used to charge about all summer on it, jumped it all the time, it was absolutely fine.
(cut tendon fibres are not stretched, of course... they haven't lost their crimp, so are, i've been told, a much better bet for a return to full work.)

Well done you - you must have worked really hard to get this result, so give yourself a good pat on the back as well.

I am currently going through the management of a tendon injury, so I know how it feels.

I was given a 30 per cent chance but my oesteopath said today that it is more like 50 per cent plus as he has been sound for 3 months and is now turned out and walking in hand. So I have had good news as well today.

Good luck for your management in bringing him back into work - will keep my fingers crossed for you
