Mis-sold a trailer :-(

I've seen brand new tyres for IW complete with wheel for around £70 - so you can sort out the tyre situation much cheaper than than originally thought.
I think the money they're asking for sorting the brakes seems very expensive. In my experience, some mechanics will really try it on as there are a few that believe, wrongly of course, that horsey people are made of money (I've actually heard some say words to this effect!). The clutch once went on our little wagon when we away at horsecamp and the garage over there quoted us £3000 (yes, 3k) to fix it. We got it home, took it to our usual place and paid a tiny fraction of this.
If you can get the brakes and tyres fixed at a reasonable cost then you will have got a very good deal and a trailer which should give you years of good service. Suing people is sometimes the right course of action but it is always incredibly stressful and you have to ask if it is really worth that stress. To me it isn't - I'd just be looking to have it fixed and then get out on the road enjoying yourself!

To be honest I think it's bad luck and the sellers could be telling the truth.
They have a friend, I have a friend, that services my trailer, no documents though.
You didn't ask before about service papers so they didn't lie to you.
You didn't get the trailer checked before you bought it and didn't notice all the tires were beyond bad,
The brakes were shot.
They do wear out and it was last November they were last checked.

You only paid £900 for it so it's not going to be perfect.
Why don't you get a second opinion on the works needing doing?
That person might have a totally different opinion on the condition and work needed!

I would expect any trailer I bought at that price to need new brakes and tyres unless I had seen receipts to show they had need done fairly recently .
Why on earth did you leave with out the locking wheel nut and without seeing the paper work you wanted to see you have to look after yourself in this life .

ETA I can see how new braking system and five new tyres come to the £1200.

My thoughts exactly.

If you buy it you own it. You should have took a mechanic. I buy all my trailers with a pinch of salt and know I will have to tweak it. Unless I bought from a dealer I would just have to cope with it.
