Misoprostil + omeprazole for unresponsive ulcers

Has anyone any experience of using misoprostil (cytotec) alongside omeprazole? We have a tb/wb event mare, became fussy to be groomed / tacked up / rugged & put the odd buck in when asked for canter. No lameness, vet did not think back was the issue, grade 2 ulcers on scoping. Full dose gastrogard for 4 weeks then half for 2, along with equinnovate powder in each feed & Succeed for hind gut. Also small feed before working. Much improved under saddle & in stable but still a little grumpy. Rescoped - 2 or 3 remaining small ulcers, so back to full dose gastrogard (except we were supplied with Peptizole this time) for 4 weeks. Bought a slow feeder for night-time, to ensure she wasn't running out during the night. Gradually switched from keep calm to ease & excel, which is meant to be good for ulcer prone horses I'm told. Grumpiness gradually increased; fine under saddle, but starting to lose a little condition. Eating fine. Rescoped - now has grade 3 ulcers. So misoprostil is being added in. After the repeat scope in 2 weeks the insurance money will be almost used up. Also thinking about XRaying back to exclude KS. Anyone any similar experience? Getting a little despondent. Thanks.
 
I've got one with ongoing issues but she has underlying problems so when one of her other issues rears it's ugly head, her stomach suffers. She's also intolerant to lots of feed, so if your ulcers got worse when you changed, then changing back is probably a good idea!
 
squamous or glandular ulcers?

I have treated with combination of Misoprostil + omeprazole + sulcralfate, from start. Plus linseed oil and pre and protected probiotic, and linseed.

And lots of turnout, adlib hay, and copra / grass chaff / grass nuts / micronized linseed.
 
Thanks - both types but mainly squamous. She has ad lib hay & an easigrazer at night so that it lasts as long as possible. Turnout is limited at present where we are but will get better.
 
Thank you, that is good to hear. Just before she started the cytotec (was delayed as needed to order in), she put in massive bucks when asked for canter with the leg on both reins, far worse than before treatment started. No bucks when asked with voice. Today - 3 days in with cytotec - she was unhappy going into canter, ears back & some resistance at first, but relaxed & hugely improved after a while. Only one small kick out and looking much more together generally. She has also put some condition back on, which perhaps is more to do with change back to original feed. I am still concerned that there may be something else going on, but I find it hard to believe that it could be something awful, as she has performed so well, both before we had her (winning at BE100) & since - loads of success & wins in all 3 disciplines with her 16 year old rider. So I am reluctant to go searching for irrelevant things wrong with her that will devalue her and give me yet more exclusions on my policy. I chose not to have her back XRayed before I bought her as I know that loads of horses have minor KS that never bothers them & didn't want to walk away from an amazing horse for no good reason.
