17.1hh, bay mare, Freezemark 6C2P, registered on the stolen horse register after somebody took her on loan then proceeded to put her into foal and sell her on. I am looking for any information (good or bad) as to her whereabouts now, she was last known to have foaled in June 2005. I have backed off search for fear of her getting seperated from her foal and now want to remind everybody out there to keep an eye out for her. You can see a picture of her on register keyword: Hunter, her name is "Cassie" but probably not known by that anymore, if you have her we need to talk 0033 562 092 329. kathbenfield90@msn.com Have a heart, help me!!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear about this, it must be really hard to go through something like this, Where did she go missing from and does she have distinguishing features?

She was born in our field in Wimborne, Dorset, her mum is still there, I had her professionally back but at 8 years old decided she wasnt doing enough and was being wasted, I advertised her in local paper, because I didnt want her to go outside the area.I put her on loan to a lovely lady who was managing a large dairy farm about 10 mins drive from me, she came and rode her several times, i went to see the farm and I agreed to let her go on loan, the loanee wanted to hunt and event her, there were many restrictions and all were agreed, I took her in our box (cant believe that, I took her), all was well for 2 years and I popped over and checked her regularly, one day I phoned to say I was going and was told that they were the new manager and previous one had left a month earlier and taken her horses with her, I tracked her down to Droitwich, Worcestershire, I went there to find it was her parents house and the horses (she had several, all on loan) were in assorted fields in the area. I didnt know this at the time, mine was the first of many. I found an advert in Horse & Hound, Mare in Foal, I drove back to Droitwich and proceeded to knock on doors untill i was stood at the gate of the field, Cass was in only 2 weeks earlier. I spoke to local people who told me my mare was in foal to a well known stallion,I contacted the owner and sure enough, he had covered my mare with his stallion, but had never been paid for stud fees or livery, he had fallen for a sob story and allowed my mare to be taken without payment (in theory he owns her youngster), I got solicitors involved and advertised in H&H, A woman contacted me in response to advert to say she had bought cassie in good faith (heavily in foal, amazingly cheap, no ownership papers, no papers for the foal), she advised me that she was not a dealer, my mare would have a good life with her and I wasnt able to see her (she had her for 6 weeks at that time), I offered her her money back, she refused. I was told to take my issue up with the girl who had taken her from me, Solicitors attempted to serve court papers on her at her parents address, at a cost 0f £3,000 to me, she threw my letters in the bin and left town, last heard of working at Reading University, I will see her in court in the end but for now I just need to find Cass, 17.1hh shireXTb but not too heavy, great big soppy doe eyes.black mane and tail, dark bay, 2 white hind legs and if you get close enough a splash of white behind her girth line, just enough to register her with chaps, 2 white hind legs and clear 6C2P freezemarked on her withers, photot on stolem horse register(keyword>Hunter). Any news good or bad and if you have this mare, then I would like to hear from you, i havw given her enough time to enjoy her foal, but now I have to find her!!!

I used to live very near droitwich...if she is still in the region or I can help at all, PM me and I will see what I can do! I really feel for you.

Thanks Guys, just talk about her at your yards and with your horsey friends, take a minute to look at stolen horse register, in case you come across her!! She was in a field at Oddingley, nr Droitwich with a couple of other horses, but was sold on from there, I will keep going untill I find her, no matter what the outcome!!! Just praying its a good one and that my relentless search hasnt put pressure for baddies to dispose of her once and for all, I dont know if I could cope with that.

What a horror story, especially when you had done absolutely everything right. What makes it worse is that had she been a car the police would have returned her to you immediately! I do not understand how the law works in this case as presumably her ownership had not been change with the freezemark company, good luck with your search and although it is unlikely she will turn up up here I will keep an eye out for her.

I never handed over the paperwork for Cass, the freezemark still in my name. The police say that this is a civil matter although it is theft???, The illegal transfer of ownership by falsifying a horse passport application is illegal, Farmkey will pay a large reward to find the horse, once somebody has been convicted of stealing it??? This I might add is the take of one particular police force in u.k, whereby my own local police station issued me with crime numbers, helped me all they could before they passed it onto another region who couldnt be bothered to do anything about it and told me to get a solicitor. What a Circus and so frustrating!!!!

i had a similar case with one of my horses we put him o loan for 4 years and checked on him every so often then similar thing to you happened we were told by police it was not a criminal issue but a civil dispute and that we would have to put it in small claims court. we still had all the receipts but because she had passported and microchipped him he was legally hers to sell. so to cut a long story short we lost him and i will never forgive the woman as the horse was my daughters and she never wanted to sell him otherwise i would have and wouldn't have gone through this.
you trust someone for them to do this to you and it makes me so angry.
please anyone thinking of loaning your horse out insist it stays on your own yard or have a good legal binding made up.
my heart goes out to you.

Can you not put a photo of her up on here? I think the woman who bought her knows that she would have to return the mare & reclaim her losses from the person who sold her. Legally the mare is yours, I hope the woman who now knows this is feeling guilty!!

sorry to be so dumb, had a good look round on user options, I cant seem to be able to upload my photo as it needs to be less than 100 bytes and being blode it all passes me by, I will get my friend to take a look when he visits. Photo coming soon, I Promise

Cassie - this photo is 4 years old, I am sure she has changed a bit, she has had a foal also. The other pic is of her and her brother Major. If you think you have seen her and you want to be sure, check under her belly there is a splash of white!!

oh god, this is why i won't let mine out on loan. i would put a lot more pressure on Farmkey - i thought they boasted that no freezemarked horse has ever gone untraced? that's part of the service, i thought. i would put more pressure on the police too, tbh. she is your horse, and was stolen. simple. whoever bought her, however innocently, doesn't own her, because she was stolen property.
i really really hope and pray that you get her back. i'd put an ad in H&H too, a big pic with her freezemark number. i think Farmkey should pay for it, actually!

Farmkey offer £10,000 towards the recovery costs of a stolen horse but because I lost her through the loan agreement rather than someone taking her from my field, they will only pay that sum after a court has decided she was stolen. I have to take her to court and the civil judge decides if she stole her then criminal proceedings proceed, but as I dont know where she is any longer and she ignored all solicitors letters from me, Farmkey have a get out!! There are adverts in october issues of h&H and Horse deals. The person who now has her knows full well that I am looking for her but chooses not to discuss it with me, I had one call from her in 2005 before cassie was due to give birth and offered to pay her back the money in full, (it would have been cheaper for me than the legal action). I think she wanted the foal, I am only interested in the mare, if I wanted a foal, I would have bred from her!! The main reason I am so desperate is because I made a promise to her mum (Rosie), you know how we whisper sweet nothings into our equine friends ears and it looks like I may be letting her down as time is running out as I dont think she will get through another winter!! I just need more than anything to know Cass is ok, so I can tell her mum and keep my promise to the old girl!! I owe Cassie that too as she was the innocent in all of this, what seemed like a good idea at the time, has turned into a living nightmare. BE WARNED!!! This situation is easily done, a loan agreement can never be in the interest of your horse or your ownership, never let them out of your sight and dont trust anyone when it comes to a loan agreement!!!

try to get the police on your side, go and visit the person who has her now, ideally with a few strong men or a police presence, and a horsebox, and all her registration documents etc. if the woman bought her very cheaply in foal, and has got a youngster out of it for her money, she should be reasonably happy. she's being totally unreasonable imho.
i think you probably need a few "friends in low places" otherwise, unfortunately.

If I knew where she was,I would have been there ages ago, The woman bought her from an ad and then 2 weeks later saw an ad in H&H listing her stolen, she contacted me then but refused to tell me where she was, I only ever got to speak to her once. The police who were dealing with it, were in the area she was sold from and informed me there was nothing they could do as it was civil, even though I had all her paperwork. They told me to go see a solicitor, which I did at a cost of £3,000.

this is happening all too often, your case is ending up the same as ours. we never got him bk.
but if we ever see him in a field i will take him bk and just let the police get involved and i'll tell them they should have done their job in the first place.
im sure you feel the same.
good luck with it

Just an update, Rosie, Cassies mum was sadly put to sleep this morning!! It is a devestating blow for me!! I so wanted to be able to give her good news, I went down to check her and she had had colic in the night and i as soon as i saw her she gave me the look, she had had enough at 22, 18 hh and crippled with arthritis, she knew it was her time and made sure i understood this too. Rosie, you took a piece of all of us with you and will never be forgotten. You were with us for 18 years and the farm will never feel the same again now you are gone!! we love and miss you so much!! xx sleep well, old girl xx
