Missing my pup... Wish we had brought her :(

Has anyone ever gone on holiday without their fur baby, and spent the whole week missing them ???

Hubby, 6yo and I are in North Yorkshire this week, and we didn't bring Lily the lakeland as hubby thought we would be really tied as to places we could take her. .

However the place is absolutely crawling with dogs, even Scarborough seafront this afternoon. .. Lots of the cafes seem dog friendly, as do the beaches (I expected lots of blue flag/no dogs in August ) and I really really wish we had brought her.

A very plaintive fb pic of her looking out of her run at the kennels hasn't helped, though lots of walkie pics from them too...

Tell me to man up please x x

I take mine with me now as I used to feel the same way.

Especially when I told kennels 'please don't take pictures of him at floor level while he's eating and post them on Facebook, I know he can eat and it's annoying for him'.....and who did I see on their Facebook page on my first day on holiday, sporting an angry eyebrow....

I'm sure she's having a whale of a time though :)

I'm sure she is having fun, and it's not her first time.. She was there for three nights when we went away in June.

Dad always had our dogs before when we went away and didn't bring them (once in Cornwall when all the beaches were blue flag and last year when we stayed with relatives rather than our own place), but he has a high maintenance rescue BC now and it's not fair on him so I didn't ask...

Dog friendly tourism is the new big thing .
I just don't go where Dram can't go .
He's stayed in loads of places but two really memorable dog friendly hotels are The Traddock In Austwick and The Salty Dog in Bangor NI .
 
We've spent the last 9 years holidaying in the UK with our dog, used to be serious world travellers. Couldn't bear to be without her, and given our recent tragedy we most definitely wouldn't leave her behind.
 
I can't stand going away without the dogs. We have planned our holidays around them this year - have done in the past. I always enjoy my time with them with new walks to explore.

We have gone abroad and adopted the local animals lol - one year we went to Cyprus and there was a kitty waiting at the back door one morning. There was cat food in the kitchen cupboard so I put some out. Next morning there were two cats. The next morning there were four. By the end of the week I had 7 cats dipping in and out and I was constantly filling the bowl lol
 
That's not making me feel better ;)

We made a special detour into Pickering this morning to visit their pet shop to buy her presents lol...

Haven't bought for anyone else haha....

Saw loads more dogs today in Whitby, though our fish & chips would have had to be take away.....

We only really do American road trips, so can't take the boys, but every time we stop to admire a lake, river etc, we look nostalgically at it and say how much the boys would love it! I feel your pain, Fiona, but next time, you can take her!

We're doing a few days in Hereford this year and big dog is coming, but on three legs currently but I can't bear to leave him behind just in case something afoul happens (youngsters will be on very safe lock down in a gun dog kennel!)

I have to leave my two older dogs at home when I go away but my younger dog always comes with me. I just wouldn't enjoy a holiday without my dog. The others are left in the care of my hubby mostly but we now also have a very reliable house-sitter who adores dogs and so we can manage a few days away as a family now and then (my dog comes too).
 
That sounds ideal workingGSD. ... My SIL is house sitting for us though and she isn't doggy at all :(

Hope you have a great time in Hereford CT...

We've moved to the Dales now, and the pub we're staying in is dog friendly, not sure about the rooms, but loads of doggies in the bar..

I will freely admit that when I went to Cyprus a couple of years ago I was in tears at the airport about leaving the Greyhound Gang. I was slightly placated by my lovely dog-sitter posting a pic on FB on the first night we were away, which showed all four of them happily asleep in their usual places. Then when we got home at 2am after our holiday I was so happy to see them after 2 weeks away..... whereupon they got up, sniffed at us casually with the attitude of "and WHERE are our lovely dog sitters" before they went back to sleep :D I felt duly put in my place :D But of course I miss them all like mad whenever I have to leave them, I absolutely hate it
 
I almost didn't recognise mine when I got back last time, they looked like different dogs. I trust the lady who owns the kennel absolutely, she's the gun dog club secretary and has the measure of Zak!
