Police search for missing horse-rider (Nether Stowey)
12/01/2013 15:21

Police are out searching for a horse-rider who may have suffered a fall this morning in the Netherstowey area.

At 10.30am today a member of the public was out walking when a Hunter-sized horse ran past. It was saddled up but had no rider with it and was travelling from the direction of Woodlands Hill towards the Free Lords area. The member of the public spent some time walking back in the direction the horse had come from but could not find the rider.

The incident was reported to police shortly after 11.30 by the member of the public. We are conducting enquiries to locate the horse and check that the rider is safe and well and has not got into difficulties while out riding.

Anyone who has information which might help us should contact us on 101."

This has happened before and it turned out that the horse had broken free just after being tacked up so really hoping its just something like that happened again. Would be so so scared if that happened to me :(

I do hope all is well with this rider. It has made me think though - more than once I have been parted with a horse, which then has dashed for home, leaving me to walk back. It has never occurred to me that someone could have spotted the horse and reported it. If this ever happens again Would a call to the local police be a good idea?

I have a tag with phone numbers, my mobile, yard & husband on my saddle. The one time someone found my horse they were able to ring me & establish all was ok (except severally dented pride!)
Think if u regularly hack alone this is very useful starting point if anyone finds a riderless horse.

W 1bbler I have just invested in a key ring with SOS and my phone number, my partners number and my name on to attach to my saddle and a second one to attach to myself with my partners number on.
At least I know if we part company people can find who my boy belongs to. X

I have this too...hope it will be helpful one day if we part company and they can hold onto him long enough to read it! Has yard number/location, ICE, my mobile etc on it.

I also do this, I use a dog tag attached to both the bridle and saddle d ring. Mine has:
*My name
*Her name
*My number
*Yard address

I never thought to add the vets number also, I may have to order some more.
It's definitely worth the £2 they cost from eBay
