I gave my boy his snack ball tonight and a few minutes later I thought he's quiet ..... too quiet....... so I checked and he was gleefully eating a pile of nuts and chopped carrot with empty snack ball beside with no lid. I have looked high and low and cannot find the lid anywhere. I even took all the hay out the haybar and went through his paper bed with a fork, behind and under his water bucket, in his feed bowl - EVERYWHERE and I cannot find it. I'm worried that he may have eaten it!!!!

He wouldn't though ............... would he?

Did you check your feed room/feed bag/the ground/floor between the feed room where you filled the ball and fatso pony?

I 'lost' mine and as you say looked everwhere, but i found it the next day in her bed... didnt look quite hard enough.

Im pretty sure they havnt eaten it as horse grind their food lots before swallowig and plasic lids arnt very grindable!

Your horse is unlikely to manage to eat them as they are quite large and not very appetising....I'd bet good money that you find it in the stable by morning....or rather, you'll find what's left of it once he/she has stomped all over it.
It must happen very frequently as they come with a spare lid...
Don't worry.

I forked through his entire bed and didn't find it and a bright yellow lid should easily be seen in a white paper bedding as well as clunking against the fork. Hopefully you are right and I will find it in daylight!

B has got through 2 balls this way, she got very good at getting the lid off and chewing it... not toooo much of problem until she also found it fun to chew round the inside of the hole where the lid goes...

the result = unusable ball...

If your horsey learns this trick dont bother buying another snack ball (they will get through this one even quicker) buy a decahedron as there is no lid... genius!!! Although the nuts come out quicker so i put bit bits of carrot in for them to filter through!

I use the decahedron one in the field as its on a slope to stop the ball from rolling out the field. I put chopped carrot in the red snack ball but had not thought of putting big bits in the decahedron to sto the nuts falling out so quickly - great tip, thanks!!

My clever beast knew exactly how to get the lid off his, I watched him do it, he unscrewed it turning it with his teeth, I wish I had videoed it now.

I have another lid because they come with two! Its just such a mystery where it went. I guess its in the land of the missing socks.

Bonita your horse is a master mind to be able to do that hehe.

I still have the same ball that i got 3 years ago along with the original lid ( still have the spare too ). The lid hasnt ever come off tho and my tb doesnt have the brains to get it off bless her- that requires brain function.

I put chepo nuts in hers and happy hoof so it takes longer to empty.

I think its in the bed somewhere hiding,i agree i dont think your horse would have eaten it.

Weird tho huh?

An extra thorough mucking out this morning revealed ..... nothing. Still haven't found the lid. Perhaps it decided it didn't like being knocked senseless everyday so left home!
