Mites (not sure if this belongs here or in Vet section)

Before I start, no, Kal doesn't have mites . . . I'm posting on behalf of a friend who doesn't use HHO who has taken on a loan pony (a baby) who has a few in his mane and tail. Not having dealt with this before, I honestly don't know what to advise her . . . apparently there aren't many but pony is rubbing his forelock and mane and tail. So, what remedies have those of you whose neds have had mites found successful?

There are probably more than she can see and they are probably lice. Cooper's Fly Repellent Plus is good stuff and has sorted mine out in the past. She will need to reapply in about 14 days to make sure that any eggs that have hatched out in the meantime are killed off.
