Hey everyone, so just wondering M's bum/tail, is this mites or something else? Anyone have any idea? I have to ring the vet Monday anyway so may see if they can pop out to have a look at it. She's not itching it or anything it's just today grooming it was just falling out and she's ending up with bald patches :(

I have just bought some insectal shampoo to bath her in tomorrow, but should I seperate her from the others or anyone have any ideas until I can speak to the vet monday morning :(

Shes a 15.2 5year old tb lives out 24/7

(Excuse her lady parts!!)

Thank you in advance!!

Is she moulting?

My friends boy moults like that. He's not bald underneath though (dif to tell from pics). It's a really interesting look.... like he's been given a really dodgy clip.

Yeah shes moulting like mad, but where she is moulting she isnt coming bald like them patches on her bum area :(

we have a tb that has loads of bald patches where his winter coat has shed before his summer one has grown through, he did the same thing last year, his face is almost completely bald at the moment. I think you will find that within a week or so the hair will have started to come through and she will be fine.

Thank you! I'm glad that your tb does it too and not just mine! It didn't look as bad today as yesturday but I washed her down in some dermoline insectal shampoo just in case. Yeah her face has also got a little on where she's balsa on both cheeks and side of her face but she's still hairy along the top from forehead to nose lol just a line!

This is the first time I have experienced her moulting as I bought her in august last year.

Thank you very much for your reply!

:)

mites generally make a horse really itchy and a horse might rub it raw where they have been itching, we had a loan companion pony come with lice and we didnt notice straight away- we thought he just had a thing for rolling! We would walk him out inhand and he would just roll wherever he could!
His coat was rubbed out rather than it just falling out, and we found lice/mite powder didnt do much, but there is a dermoline insecticidal shampoo was brilliant and did the trick straight away.

Looking at this, it doesnt look like lice to me :)

My TB used to get all patchy and scurfy, was an ongoing nightmare, was fungal! Used antifungal shampoos prescribed by the vet, and rugs etc had to be thoroughly washed too xx

Thank you all for you replies, I washed it down yesturday with the dermoline insectal shampoo. She isn't itchy at all, she's not really a roly horse either. The colour of the skin has gone darker and bits of hair have already started growing back a tiny bit. Still makes me wary! Have asked loads of people that have horses with me and they all said they don't think it is mites or anything? Think I'll wait a couple of days and see what it looks like?

Our TB maults like that. Looks bloody awful like she has mange or somthing, were told to feed her multi-vits as they shouldnt mault like that.
It improved massivley !
We used Feedmarks benevit.

Yes - just moulting. They rub on anything at this time of year and then when you brush them it comes out in handfuls. Mine are all looking pretty moth-eaten.

How long did it take for them to look not so patchy? Lol I have a show on 8th may and dreading taking her looking like she has bad skin :( I get worried when I'm grooming because it all just comes out from the routes leaving her bald, no new coat underneath just skin! :( she's not itchy though unless I get her itchy spots (on her neck) but that's the only area she's moulting like that on. Everywhere else she's moulting normally? Strange!!
