Does anyone have a 2.5td sport and is it man enough to tow a horsetrailer with a large horse in.
I have recently bought a richardson ultra and my current shogun has died ,so i need a tow vehicile .I know where there is a 2005 basic shogun sport 2.5 td lwb ,it is in good order and low mileage so i am tempted. My experience of towing is limited so i am hoping that someone can enlighten me .Cheers.x

Yes they will tow its basicly the old shape L200 with an estate body, not that good!! but if its cheap maybe ok the bigger 3.2 shogun is much better and more economical but would be pricey

Yes i agree the 3.2 would be better ,but i can't stretch to that as yet.

Its only done 57000 miles and has never towed and had one previous owner and full service history. I suppose that is what is atractive about it.
Anyone know what mpg it will do?

Well for anyone who says they cant tow we towed, on Thursday night, a Nissan Terrano LWB with an old front unload rice trailer still attached to it, that also had a Welsh cob gelding inside & 3 foals...we towed it for about 3 miles & up a hill that is very steep & about 1mile long!! The clutch had gone in the Nissan & there was no jockey wheel on the trailer so we couldnt unhitch it, so it was a case of needs must! I should point out ours is the 2.5 Equippe as well, so not ever a 3.2!!!
Really impressed with our Shogun Sport, had it 3 years now & its never let us down, plenty of space in the back for passengers plus a good boot space as well, so handy if you have dogs or went to pick feed up etc.

WOW Navaho,i would of needed a change of underwear after towing all that lot up a Hill, bet you were glad to get home safe and sound. That is certainly a good advert for the shogun!

low 20s unless you drive very gently!!! a local company had some van versions friend that worked for them said they were very heavy on fuel and they got rid as no one liked them oh and check the road tax cost on all the passinger type 4x4s as some are £400 per year...

My daughter used to have one a SWB and it towed my Ifor HB510 with two horses no prob! No room for tack etc though.
x

Yes i could see a problem with where to put all your gear in a swb.
This one is a LWB so hopefully there would be abit more space.I am use to a lorry with living ,so i shall definately find it abit hard not having the storage space for tack, rugs, hay etc..

We've got the 2.5 sports equippe and have used it too tow for the last 3 years using both an ifor and richardson trailers, had no problems whatsoever, fantastic up/down hill, didn't feel as though we were struggling or being pushed. Pulled my 16.1 and a friends big cob with no issues.

Fuelwise they are heavier than other 4x4's especially when towing (my husband who hates any 4x4 admits that as a towing vehicle you can't fault the shogun's).

I love my Mits Shogun Sport 2.5 Equippe...............previous to that I have a Pajero SWB ( loved that too but needed more storage space )

I paid £6K for an 04 plate with full Mits service history with 50k mileage..........prices have probably risen due to time of year.

I tow a IW 510 with two large horses and I get about 25MPG.

We drive a 3.2 v8 automatic mitsubshi shogun sport and tow 15.3 TB and 14.2 Arab X easily and a 1 ton off-roading landrover easily. Don't know about the smaller litre ones though. Only thing we have issues with is the crappy turning circle, but the automatic gear box is surprisingly brilliant for towing.

I tow with the 3.2 lwb Shogun and it's great. Previously have towed with 2.5l and found it didn't have enough whoomph for my Ifor Williams 510 and 2 large (IDX) horses. Also have to watch out for the limits on towing with the 2.5. Know someone who was caught out as they had exceeded their limit when loaded with 2 horses.

We have the shogun sport warrior. Hubby loves it, prefers it to the previous Diahatsu Fourtrak that we had and that took some beating :D. We only changed to the shogun as we got a dog and he struggled with the 2 doors of the 4trak. Hubby prefered it to the latest Disco!!, got to say I didnt but I suppose it was half the price. Loads of boot space, better on fuel than the 4trak, about 28mpg. We got the 55 plate and just avoided the £400 road tax. Dont use it for towing a trailer but have done, Richardson and Ifor with 16.2 mw in it with no problems at all. At one point I was toying with an equitrek multitrekka but decided against as I was pushing it a bit. I think it can tow 2800kg???

Yes i am still trying to work the weight limit to car ratio thingy....it is all very confusing!!!

we have one and it is fabulous for towing (we tow an Ifor 510 with an 18hh horse).

great up and down hills, good at getting on and off slippy, muddy showgrounds and lovely for long drives down the motorway.

ours has also had to be used to pull an 18ft field shelter that had blown over a fence AND the tractor that got stuck rescuing it straight out with no trouble :)
