Well today was a bit of a mixed bag with the guys.

Decided to ride both Kia and Stella as they both needed the work and I had the time and decent weather. So got Stella in and took her round the local canter tracks and gave her a good bit of interval work and some lovely long trots up hills, she's getting really fit, she was hardly sweaty at all despite being out for over an hour and most of it at trot and canter :)

Got back, hosed her off and rugged her and tacked up Kia, locked up and off we went, got about 50yards down the single track road and was nearly wiped out by a Royal Mail van going far too fast  he screeched to a stop and this was too close and too much for Kia who half reared and spun but unfortunately lost his hind legs and I slipped off the back and he half sat on my left leg, he got up and I was underneath him staring at his sheath and he had a hind foot on my fleece arm. Did think I was getting stomped on but the clever boy hopped the backlegs over me and took off up the lane. I got up and took off after him and caught him in a neighbours drive. Van driver didn't even leave the van, think he was too shocked himself.

I walked him round and apart from rather spooky he seemed fine, so went to an embankment and got on, took him round the route and he was keen and fine so enjoyed the hack and he got a nice bath and full body inspection when I got back to the yard, he has taken a small patch of fur off his thigh but not broken the skin so we were lucky. I'm afraid I was mostly fine other than a little sore, until I took my boot off, now my foot won't weight bear and my ankle is swollen. Currently treating RICE and painkillers and ill see how it is tomorrow. Sick of A+E so putting off going for the moment.

So mixed bag of a day really but got some good pics :)

Stella :)

Kia :)

Lovely

Semi presentable lol :D

Poser

After the drama

My ankle

Had about 2hrs with ice and raised so hoping all will settle down and be fine as I have XC next Sunday!!!

Just looks like a sprain, these royal mail drivers go far too fast, i really shake mu head at them and they get the message.

Yep this guy was flying! I could hear him but there was nowhere to go :(

The bruising is coming out now but I think I've just had a bad squash and not broken it, so happy as I have a few badminton tourneys to end the season and my horsey season is just starting lol :)

Did you manage to get the number on the van? Just in case the ankle causes you to miss work or doesn't heal so easily? I hope the driver learnt his lesson and takes more care in future.
Btw, I like the pics in the lane, were you using a helmet-cam? Also like the mud-monster pic :p

How scary for both of you!!! Did the van driver never get out at all to check on you?! I would be reporting the accident to Royal Mail, they need to have words with him and if you feel up to it do the BHS accident report form as it's worth having a record of these things.

Ankle injuries can be a real nuisance, might be worth seeing a good physio as soon as the swelling goes down to avoid future problems.

Eeek! I hope your ankle heals OK, and well done you for getting back on and carrying on with your hack.

I would report the RM driver too

PS - loving the happy ears pics after you got back on :D

Thank you suffolkmare booboos and tankgirl, I'm on my phone so I can't quote you :)

I will report it to both, the driver didn't get out of the van but being honest as soo as I heard him take off in the opposite direction from the stables I was up and after him :o I tend to have pure adrenaline reactions then the pain and shock kicks in much later :o so chances are I was off before the guy gathered his wits enough to think about getting out the van and I was probably on the neighbours drive so he wouldn't have known where I was to check on me. Well I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt anyway.

Yeah Kia loves being filthy although he normally clipped out so eating fluff and mud for half an hour wasn't my idea of hilarity but he was rather smug looking as I was scraping it off lol :D ;)

Its not a helmetcam, although I would love one :) , just my phone in my hand, that's one of the good things about Kia is that once he's calmed down he forgets about stuff and moves on :) its one of my favourite things about him :D

If he was driving too fast for the conditions, let the Royal Mail know, esp as it did cause an accident. The only time I wouldn't is if the driver is clearly really shocked and you can tell they have absolutely learned their lesson instantly. In this case I think theres no way of telling, so I would want to be sure that they do realise how dangerous their speed was.

I agree L&M will be emailing them today and also the accident report form on BHS. He was going too hard as that lane is massive hedges and stone walls and nowhere to go if not at a passing place or entrance to a drive!

Glad your all ok. I would be emailing and phoning Royal Mail today.

Write it all down on paper every event , then send it. Driver was obvious speeding and being a d*ck head.
