No i mean mixed flakes.... A combination of barley, maize, corn, peas, ect ect just I normally give mine flaked barley and was wondering if mixed flakes would be better...
I take it you mean the cheap unbranded mixed flakes? I don't feed them but I knew of someone who fed them with a supplement and a bit of chaff and the pony looked fine on it.

Why because its unbranded does it make it cheap??? At 11 pound a bag you could hardly call it cheap ???
there are many excellent balanced branded feeds at less than 11 pounds per bag? and even more unbranded! so why choose mixed flakes?at 11 pound per bag?

I don't think OP was disputnig the cost of a bag
just wondering wether they would be better than giving barley....
I fed this to my broodmares and youngstock briefly, as part of their straights-ration years ago, to boost the overall protein level in their diet and to help with condition.
Personally, I'd stick to a formulated feed though. I wasn't riding any of mine which were eating it at the time, and with all that 'heating' contents I'd not want to!
