Mixing electric wire with tape?

I've mixed tape with wire off 12volt in the past and not had problems.
Just make sure the connections are done well. I used to use the metal 'buckle' thing that you use to join 2 pieces of tape with & make sure the tape is firmly attached, then attach the wire on the other end of it.
However, I've now got all tape on the boundaries etc.

:)

As has been said you can definately run the two together but you must ensure a good connection. Use proper connectors, do not knot the two together because the connection will not be very good & you will lose power. Sometimes I use connecting wires consisting of small guage wire with a small crocodile clip on each end. This ensures I have a good connection.

Once you've done your fencing turn it on & go around it with a fence tester yto check that sufficient voltage is getting round.

Fully agree with Toby. The connections are the most important thing. Any bad joins will increase the resistance and lower the voltage on the tape. You may get a slight power drop, as tape itself has a slightly higher resistance than stranded galvanised wire, but if you are running a mains electric fencer unit, these tend to be a higher Joule output, which can Cope with the extra tape.

mixing tape and wire will work fine providing you have good connections, no knots in tape and decent tape. and a decent enegizer. what joules is your enegizer? and how many earth rods have you got? a mixed system will only work if the enegizer is up to the lenghth of the fence!!

I run both together, don't worry about connections!! The tape is for visibility, the wire for punch!! Works great!!

Yes, when joining tape to wire, wrap the end of the tape around the wire several times and then tie back to secure a good contact. I also run tape along the top wire of the permanent fence and cable tie it on so the fence is visible. Just make sure it does not short out to earth anywhere.
