Took the big grey one for his first Intro yesterday and I am absolutely chuffed to pieces with him!
Bit of background - I've only had him a few months, and he was very inexperienced when I got him. I've been working him over the winter, getting him out and about SJ and dressage. We also managed to fit a couple of XC schooling sessions in, but yesterday was the first time we have put it all together.
Anyway, dressage. Came out a bit looky and inattentive, but started to get some nice work out of him. Went in to do my test - it started fine, but then he had a slip in his first canter (somebody had lost the stud kit
) which unsetteld him a little. Ended up with 37.5 which was probably fair. SJ: he jumped a super round until the last - planks. He just ran on a little into them and flattened.
On to the XC: He was a bit sticky and looky at the first few, and we had a silly run out and number 5 as his attention was anywhere but the fence
. However, after that, his brain seemed to click into gear and you could feel his confidence growing as he continued around the course.
So, score may not look great on paper, but I am chuffed to bits with him for his first event. Roll on Moreton Morrell!
