Think I'll have to admit defeat finally and pluck up the courage to jump him over bigger course don't you?

is it just a hunter trial though as if he's fit enough to go round twice get a late entry in on the day and go round the Novice!

yes it's the HT at Eland next Sunday but they are full as have over 200 entries. Oh he's plenty fit enough to go round twice
grin.gif
though not sure about my fitness
smirk.gif
Will definately enter the novice HT at their one later in the season though!
Think having SJ lessons and jumping 3' makes me realise these fences out XC aren't that big after all.

exactly - that's the way to think! Damn about them being full but yeah definately go for the novice next time
smile.gif

Thanks will do, was going to enter the Novice this time round but had a wobble when looking at the course online as the fences looked huge! and so entered the mini

Just don't think I'm capable when it comes to jumping the bigger fences

Of course you are! ****Kicks Pidge up the botty****

Looking good in the photos Sue. You and Pidge have come on leaps and bounds (every pun intended) and I'm sure you'll be brimming with confidence once you've gotten your first novice under your belt.

Looking forward to hearing the report.....but in the meantime, good luck again next week.

Thanks Kat, yes haven't entered yet so not sure whether to go for the mini again or have a bash at the novice? Or wimp out and do the mini ODE again and do the novice HT?

You've done the Mini a couple of times now havent you? I'd have a bash at the Novice
grin.gif
I'm hoping to be there doing the Mini...
wink.gif
BUT if I get there it will be on a 4yr old who wont be that familiar with "parties"

done the mini HT a few times now and done the ODE twice. Will have a think about the ODE as our dressage canter is still ropey.
Ooh is this the ISH you posted about the other day? Who did you get vet wise in the end as we use Straitons, very good.

Ah yes but the dressage canter will be ropey regardless of which test you do
tongue.gif
The tests arent that complex
grin.gif

Yes, it will be on the ISH I posted about. Have got Poolehouse doing it...
grin.gif

I know Pidge thinks dressage is sooooo boring, he get so excited when jumping and then we can get a lovely canter, oh for a couple of SJ's round the dressage arena
tongue.gif
grin.gif

Ooh so when do we need to keep our fingers crossed for then?

I know it's just I want it to be perfect
mad.gif
so get cross with myself when it's not!
Ooh will have everything crossed for Tuesday then
grin.gif
can't beat a good ISH
grin.gif

Yeah I know, it is difficult! But honestly, the PN tests arent much more different to the Intro tests, and tbh may give Pidge more to do and so listen to you!!

Thanks
smile.gif
Yeah I like the irish ponies

You and Pidge look great! It's tricky to advise, as confidence is such a fragile thing and the last thing you want to do is feel out of your depth and knock yourself back.

Have you been training over bigger fences (at the novice height)? I've been doing lots of training sessions, making sure I'm training at the height I'm wanting to compete at plus plenty fences which are bigger/more technical than I'll come across so that when I do compete, I know that I have the confidence there that I've done bigger/trickier before, so we CAN do it! (that's the theory anyway...!)

I did a pick-a-fence competition recently which was brilliant because I could try bigger fences in competition than I had done previously, but with the knowledge that any really scary fences had a smaller alternative!

I would always ask a trusted instructor or experienced friend who's seen you in action for the answer to your question- although I'm sure they'd agree with the general consensus on here!
smile.gif

you're right I know about the dressage as he does go better when more in the test otherwise he just romps along
crazy.gif

It's that 5th leg jumping I like, oh and the point steer and hold on when jumping
grin.gif

Thanks I've jumped 13 out of the 18 fences on the novice HT course now and TBH they jumped fine so it is more a case of my mental state
tongue.gif
If I'm confident then Pidge will jump anything but if I have a wobble then he'll stop as he tries to please his mum so thinks he's doing the right thing, bless him.
See that's why I didn't think they were that big as have been jumping 3' XC fences at Somerford and been having SJ lessons and pushing the boundaries so it doesn't actually seem that daunting anymore.
God damn it why is this so hard! If I could get my brain to switch off when jumping I'd be fine
grin.gif

Thanks and yes the adrenelin certainly does kick at a comp
grin.gif
think we might do the mini ODE but def the novice HT later on
grin.gif
there I've said it in black and white now!

grin.gif
will see what happens when I complete the form
grin.gif

speed is usually 425mpm as the time XC is usually just over 5minutes, last time it was 5m9sec.
