My horse has a very nasty rope burn injury from fillet string...right through fat layer into muscle...A rare accident thats going to take months of anguished healing. Vet has done the technical trimming of the wound and cleaning up to give best chance of a recovery..she advised and we have started applying Manuka honey. Has anyone had similar injury or even used it for large areas of healing? What should we expect.? All the right ups are very favourable but real life experience can't be beaten so please help if you can.
 
Manuka honey works a treat. Good advice from your vet. Many vets now advise this for wounds on large and small animals. We have done a huge amount of clinical research into Manuka over the past 10 years and it lives up to it's reputation. The higher to potency factor on the Manuka (i.e 5+ / 10+ / 15+) you can afford the better.
 
get the 15+ stuff (or the highest potency you can find). Very good healing .. not so good in the summer as it can attract many flying undesirables!!!
 
Fantastic! My lad sliced himself open in the stable (dickhead that he is). It was deep enough to stitch but I discovered it too late. It looked dreadful. My YO leant me her active manuka honey and I put it on twice a day. Kept it beautifully clean and it has healed really neatly.
I think it is a wonder drug.
Also apparently good for human dicky tummies, so I've heard.
As far as I'm concerned, a first aid box should not be without a pot!
