Hi,

I am currently setting up a pet sitting business (while i'm at uni studying horse science, complemetary therapy and natural horsemanship) that involves pop in visits for small pets/cats, dog walking and also everything to do with horses.

I am considering buying a portable hot horse shower so that I can go to different yards to wash people's horses and I just wondered if anyone on here would be interested in that and if they have any opinions on it?

If I get one I think I would be charging around £20 per wash.

Thanks :-)

I'm sorry but there is no way I would pay £20 for someone to wash my horse, when I could boil the kettle a few times & give my horse a fairly warm wash for free.
Also the hassle factor of arranging someone to come to the yard to do it.

If I'm honest I can't see this idea having any success....sorry :(

This is something I may be interested in, yes. Rarely bath my horses but for a show this kind of service could be really useful. It would save me time to concentrate on tack cleaning and other things.

The only thing is I doubt I would be the only fussy owner who would want to see how you handled the horse first.

I've got an Anivac mobile horse and dog washer for sale if anyone is interested! My ad in on horse and hound online. So I guess its ok to post this. PM me for more info.

My friend has a man with a hot wash vac out to her horse now and again and I’m pretty sure it’s way more than £20 a go. The results are fab, removes every grain of dirt and scurf and her horse looks like she’s in heaven whilst being done. I admire anyone who gets off their backside and works for something so good luck, hope you get up and running.

I think its a good idea, people have been successful doing the same thing for dogs so no reason why it couldn't work for horses.....

I have 2 horses and I would definitely pay someone £20 to wash them. Its always the job I don't have time for at the weekends after all the other things.

Please could you move to the South West :D

I think it would be a good idea although probably not for us...

Washing ours is a bit of a nightmare... The livery (working farm) is fed by natural water so we have to be very considerate of water use...

Just bear in mind that in the South East (no idea what it is like in your area), we have had very little rain fall over winter and as such are likely to be subject to some sort of water restriction in the near future. Hose pipe bans etc..., could I assume affect your business.

You can come to do mine tomorrow ,I was just thinking I will do him , I use a pressure washer, he doesn't seem to mind that much,

I think as a business £20 is to cheap. I would think £40 due to traveling your time shampoo etc ,
You can lay in bed & earn nothing why get up to do it ?

I would definately go for something like this. I always have great intentions bathing the horse and then it never works out so a service like this would be fantastic for busy horse owners. Maybe offer mane and tail pulling services along with it. Best of luck with starting up your brilliant idea

Thanks very much for the productive comments, I will double think about prices and also I understand about the hose pipe ban, hopefully other services will keep me going in the business I'm starting up :-)

I dont think I would pay anyone just to come and wash my horse even if I didnt have my own warm water wash. However I would definitely be interested in a wash, pull, plait and fuzz-tidying service. I dont mind doing it myself particularly now Ive installed solar lighting so pony stays lovely and toasty and my fingers dont stiffen when plaiting...BUT Ive been out competing just once this season and already had to skip uni (fri afternoon lectures) to bath and plait my horse as I had a 3am alarm as it was so no way was I getting up earlier to wash and plait as well! I have a feeling this will be a regular occurence with saturday competitions, so would definitely be something I'd want to use. I probably wouldn't use it all through the season as no reason once unis finished for the summer, but someone in a similar position but with full time work might :)
