We have one of these: https://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/kadence-folding-stool
I use this:
http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-General-Purpose-Hop-Up-Platform-500mm/p/106265
It folds down, is lightweight and actually quite high- I use it to get onto my 18hh+ beast
I have this its fab but I always find someone to ask to stow back in my trailer or car if I am on my own. Not always easy if you are going hacking, but fine at competitions

Really great. Cheap and tall. Two steps so you don't risk slipping as you climb on.
I like GS's idea but I haven't got room for two milk crates in my new little chariot.
I have those in my stable to hang the rugs up but I find they are not sturdy enough and did have one collapse on me when hanging a rug up.

I use the front bumper of my landrover as a mobile mounting block
Ikea two step kitchen steps are only a few quid.
