Mobile stable question re skids?

We are just about to order some mobile stables and have been quoted for wooden skids with a metal covering to each edge.

For those who have wooden skids. do they last?
 
i guess it depends what they're standing on...?

if they're on soft flooring, i doubt they'd be very long lasting, but i might be wrong... we're getting metal skids. in fact, i don't think any of the ones we've looked at are wooden skids. is there a great deal of difference in the price?

It will be standing on crushed hardcore and hopefully not going to be moved.

The chap who has quoted said that he normally builds on wooden skids and they are guaranteed to last years.

The difference in money is about £400, just wondering if it is a saving worth saving, I know its only £400 but £400 none the less.
 
haven't officially 'gone' with anyone... as having to wait til contracts are exchanged before i order (hubby thinks that's sensible... i think it SUCKS)

but... am 90% sure we're going with F J Lucas cos they're local and so very solid and airy.
