I'm wanting to add mobile stables and a menage to a field, any ideas how much it will cost me to have electricity and water supplied to the site? There is neither there now but there are residential properties just across the road so there must be some in the area.

I also need to buy the mobile stables, what's a good price for used ones, I need to buy 6 (or 4 and a large field shelter) and am on a budget! I've priced up the menage but the stables seem to vary in price a lot

NOt sure if this will help but it cost us about £1,000.00 to have water laid to our paddock. The mains went up the lane and we just needed pipework to inside the gate (so about ten foot or so).

We gave up on the electricity idea as, although we have an electricity pylon in the field and very close to the stables, the electricity board wanted £14K to link it up to the stables.

I'm not sure you will be able to lay services to mobile stables and then still class them as being mobile. You arent even supposed to lay any sort of base to them.

it cost us £8500 for 2 24x12ft mobile stables on metal skids. It then cost us a further £1000 to put mains water onto our land. We enquired about electricity and luckily for us because we have a transformer in our field it will only cost £1000 to put on, however if there had been no transformer it wouldve been in excess of £10k - and we have houses opposite our main gate.

youre best making enquiries to the electric board and asking them to give you a quote as it may be very expensive. you could however rig up solar panels and run lighting off leisure batteries.

we have plans passed for a large arena (25x50m) and the quotes we have had so far for a 20x40m arena have been around £22k. were still looking to see if we can bring the cost down as its going to be a hell of a lot more for the size we want.

Daisy, have you done this?? I am looking into this at the moment and was wondering how efficient they are??

It's fine as long as you don't want to run floodlights off it! We are planning to install one to runa concealed lighting system in our house because it is quite dark inside on dull days and I don't want mains lights on all day.

You can rig a very simple system using 12v halogen lighting (see caravan/boating supply websites - we are using ordinary halogen lights that would normally have a transformer) and say, two, car or deep charge leisure batteries. If you buy a photovoltaic cell charger for the batteries you can have one on the light circuit and the other charging for free!!

i havent but my friend has and they work brilliant. I however have rechargeable lights at the moment that i put on the walls. But were in the process of getting mains put on for the winter.

Thanks Chico!!

We want to use it to light four stables, so as long as they will provide an hours light in the morning, and at least the same again in the evening it will be fine - I have now done one too many winters with no lights and a full time job!!

Is finding this photovoltaic thingy more simple than it sounds?!
