Stupid question but where do you all carry your mobiles when hacking? In nice weather I ditch my hi-vis tabard with pockets and opt for cooler hi-vis sports/cycling tops instead so I have nowhere to carry my phone. I have a lanyard but wearing something around the neck that could get caught seems dangerous. Plenty of D’s on saddle but I want phone on me and not horse as I’m pretty sure she won’t hang around when I come off. Any suggestions?

In my jods pocket - not the most comfortable but at least I have the phone on me, plus it's quite small and old so can handle getting banged about a bit :)

Ditto bar or just tucked into my chap :)

Though the bra one doesn't work so well if you have a rather OTT jumper!!! Tends to pop out....lol

Or if you're male? xD Can't see many guys having this option... really....

I always stick mine in my jods pocket, or in one of those phone holder thingies (though my new phone isn't the right shape for them, was perfect for my old phone!)
Did used to just stick it down my boot until I bought boots that actually fit... :p

Letter in this weeks HH highlights the danger of putting your mobile in your jacket pocket. Rider had a fall and landed on her phone which was just at bottom rib level....caused serious damage to her liver.

I like the mobile phone holders that strap to your arm or boot.

Yeah, I used to stick mine down my boot, until I realized that I actually can't get it out again when on board :P tried putting it in my jods waistband, and it fell down to my bum, I got some pretty horrified looks when people drove past me standing up in my stirrups with a hand down my trousers :o was super embarrassing :D

Failing that, my mum has a purse sized thing that has a loop to fasten to a belt... that's quite handy! Not that I ever seem to have belt loops on the jods I'm wearing at the time despite most of my jods having belt loops?! ah, tis crazy I know.... :p

ClarePauling - I can just imagine :D :p

Erm, I just put mine in my jodphur pockets....

I would advise against this - there have been cases where the mobile phone has actually broken a rider's pelvis in a fall because of it being in a jodhpur pocket. St. John's told me that the safest place to put it is on the arm or leg (something non-vital (likely to crush major organs if it is broken)).

Or like in my accident. I was trapped in a ditch under my horse and the phone was in my gillet pocket, and I was unable to get it out.

I have one of the strap onto your arm/leg holders. Surprisingly even my new iphone fits in it :)

in my jod pocket, the phone sits at the front and not on any bones so should be ok if we part company. I did have one of those neoprene phone holder things but it kept slipping down and I had to do it really tight so it stayed put which I didn't like

I have a 'bumbag'.....its a really good look.....especially if I forget to take it off when I get off!!!

I'm guilty of putting it in my pocket, but would rather not in case it causes some damage if I have a prang, any of those arm/leg straps big enough for my brick of a blackberry does anybody know?

How many people have ICE number in their mobile?
emergency services recommended it, as so many times they do not know who to contact so are now advised to look for ICE numbers only.
ICE = in case of emergency!

I have a Woof Wear pouch wth zip that clips onto belt loops, fits my Blackberry fine. I did have one of the neoprene velcro phone pouches but had just got a new phone and it flew out while cantering, did find it luckily but wouldn't trust one again.

First, good old bumbag for phone, and yard keys.

second, I carry my ICE details on a bright card in a cheap i pod carrying armband, which is bright pink and unmissable. Cost me 99p, and made card myself.

Third, I received my new RIDE ALERT pack today!!!!!!

I have one of those neoprene holders that straps around my leg, I wear it just above the top of my boot so it can't slip down. Wouldn't have it in a pocket, just in case.

I usually ride with mine in either a coat or gillet pocket but sometimes in my johd pocket. keep meaning to get one of those armband thingys

re the ICE I was just thinking the other day about ways of giving such instructions should horse and I part company out hacking and I thought a baggage label attached to saddle with instructions like:

'If this horse is found with no rider in sight, please call >>insert owner phone no<< and if no answer after 3 attempts, please call emergency services and next of kin >>insert next of kin phone no<<. If this horse is injured please call vet >>> insert vet name and no<<<'

or something along those lines... just thought that anyone 'unhorsey' would recognise a baggage label as a means of identification... dog tags are often hard to spot and not big enough for detail...

That's a good idea about the luggage label, you'd just have to make sure it didn't flap about too much. Wonder if you could tie it down somehow?:)
