Mobiles phones and riding...come on be honest

Take the phone hacking for emergencies and rang the police on 999 while aboard, but standing at the side of the road. Have had a smoke on board, but again only when standing at the side of the road.

I'll admit to chatting sometimes while schooling

Indeed one reason i chose my current phone is that it fits snuggly in the harness of my hat so i can keep both hands on the reins and take any calls :P

Its a dreadful habit imo and i picked it up from my damn trainer

We'd frequently speak to each other on the phone when schooling in different arenas so she could give feedback :P

Yep - guilty. Don't do much roadwork, but when I did, would answer a call in quiet places. On nice forest hacks when quiet pony is so good anyway that I normally just ride with my little finger.....nothing bad happened....yet!

Also prone to a wee ciggy now and then, but they normally get dropped at the sight of a bird/other person, as feel looks bad ...(to the person...I really am not sure birds care, but you never know!)

I use in hacking IF someone calls me which is rare, or If I urgently need to call, and then NEVER on the road and always stopped where I can see what is coming. In fact last time I used it was when I fell off on my head on concrete and had to call OH to say I wasn't feeling too good come get me.

I also HATE it when ride round in the SCHOOL on phones, jsut dawdling along!!! ARGH!! Why not just LEAVE!

I use my phone out hacking but never on the roads. Horse is daft enough in traffic without me taking that sort of risk. But I discovered that I can tuck the phone into the hat harness when talking and be hands-free!

I chat on the phone when hacking quite a lot. However, I will add a caveat to this in that I only do it on quiet roads, only generally in walk and I will hang up if something big and scarey is approaching.

In the school I have been known to walk, trot, canter and even jump when on the phone.

I wear a blue tooth headset when riding. I'm surprised more riders don't.

I always make sure that the last person dialled is my husband, just incase of any problems, because I can press redial on the headset without having to get the phone out of my pocket

I take my phone with me but never chat on the phone as on hacks I always need to be fully concentrating on pickle. In the school I never have my phone on me anyway!

I'll normally answer calls and say I'm out on the horse so I'll call them back unless it's urgent. Sometimes I don't answer at all, it depends on Osc's mood!!

I used to when I had a horse that behaved out hacking! I don't anymore though. If I had it in my pocket while riding in the school I would look to see who it was, if someone important pull up and talk, if not, cut them off

My horse is too unpredictable to be chatting away while on board!

I have been known to be on my phone for over an hour on a support call whilst hacking out - Cairo loved it as he did the whole ride at a walk.

I would on a very safe horse like Cairo use my phone, including on a quiet lane, but not on a baby starting out like Chancer - then the phone is for emergencies and I keep both hands on the reins at all times.

On a very busy road then no matter what horse I was on, then I would not be using the phone.

My sister's horse used to freak out if the phone rang. I wouldn't anser or make a call if I was riding him on my own but if am in a safe enough place and no large traffic coming then he is ok.

Have no qualms about answering the phone or making a call on mine but i would keep a check on what's coming on the road (we only ride on minor country lanes anyway). I trsut him implicity so it's not a concern.

However, i did get stuck in my car on a v v narrow country lane behind some very ignorant or idiotic girl who (i didn't realise til i went past) was on her phone. She was in the middle of the road so i couldn't pass and she was oblivious to me being behind her. I was crawling behind for ages and was sooo tempted to beep my horn! To make matters worse she also had her dog with her wandering about (although that was more aware of me being there than she was)

Relly wish I told her what I thought of her when she FINALLY noticed me (and was STILL on her phone!!) Stupid woman that's all I thought. She was lucky it was me behind her and not some kids who like to use the lanes as a race track!

I always carry my phone but only use it occasionally to quickly answer calls IF the road seems safe and I have a trustworthy ned. However many calls go un answered or I explain that I am with ned and will call back later.

Oh dear, I have used my mobile while riding, smoked while riding, and eaten an ice cream while riding.
I didn't even get off the horse to buy the ice cream from the ice cream van.
He stood like a rock while I ordered my 99, with a flake and strawberry syrup, and also waited patiently while I paid for it.

Yes I always answer my cellphone if it rings. My horses don't care about phones ringing or traffic. If some out of the ordinary thing were to happen, I'd simply drop my cellphone on the ground and deal with the situation.
