They've nearly all got their eyes open and are getting up on their feet, even if they do look like drunken sailors just now! 11 days old now, time flies! You can't always pick out Modget, he merges in well and is growing all the time!
Widget is back home again looking very well; hope she doesn't burst her stitches again this time; back for a check up tomorrow so stitches out next week I think. Think I'll be having to sell everything to pay this vet bill!:hmm:

He has really come on, I had to look twice to see him in those pics. Hope the stitches stay in place this time, its nerve wracking isn't it? I was at my vets near you (HH) on monday, I did wonder if you used the same practice and if Widget was perhaps there. Vets bills eh, don't you just love them. We are going on holiday in 3 weeks, I think the dogs are trying ot make sure I don't have any spending money, been to vets twice in last 2 weeks

They are soooooo cute, my parents get back off holiday this weekend so am going to go round armed with laptop to show them the pictures and convince them that what they want is a lurchett!!
How big do you reckon they are going to get?
Pleased modget is doing well, will she be a keeper?? lots of stitch staying in vibes to widget x

My landlord came round last night and made no attempt to count the dogs, so I am sure another one would be fine

If I'd known I would have taken her some grapes

They are worth paying for aren't they, though when it comes to horses RW and insurance forms are a nightmare. Mind you a friend had her dog at another practice and charges were much higher. Also, she wasn't happy with their treatment but when she mentioned 2nd opinion they told her there would be extra charges of around £400 if she moved, but if she kept the dog with them they would complete the treatment for free

Big sigh here but I expect Modget will be a keeper here just in case HE (

) does have problems in later life due to his bad start; I wouldn't like to pass any problems on if it can be avoided but at the same time, if someone came along who we were happy with would do the best by him, then it might be different. Whatever, he'll have a thorough MOT, as they all will, before any of them are ready to go anywhere.

Size wise, we're in the lap of the Gods!

Monty is 22" at the shoulder and Weasel is a dainty type Basset who is very active and loves her hunting so I suppose they might make whippet size but broader, give or take a few inches.
Now I've got a camera that does video, prepare to be bored once they've started getting about properly and are playing!

Had to laugh, RW doesn't do paperwork does he?! As to friend, it wasn't the new practice in W'church was it, if so I'm not surprised; they've got to pay their overheads somehow you know for being town centre and all!

But that is an appalling way to behave, don't like that at all. Is it common practice to have to pay the original vets for a 2nd opinion from another practice then, I've never been in that position to need to thank goodness? (I understand about paying for 2nd opinion obviously, but not that you pay old practice for the privilage of a referral!)

My daughter thinks RW is God in all things veterinary. She has done several lots of work experience there and quotes him on everything, but she couldn't have a better role model imo. Yep that is the other practice I meant. To try and explain a bit more clearly, dog broke its toe. Had a full plaster up to her hock (which I was surprised at) and a huge open wound formed under the plaster. There was talk of amputation. Bill to this point was £500. She wanted to take her to HH for a 2nd opinion but when she asked if her bill was paid up to date, vet said yes, as they hadn't charged for recent treatments to the wound, BUT if she took her somewhere else (she hadn't told them this was her intention but suppose they guessed) they would have to charge for this recent treatment which would be another £400. I was disgusted but she really had no option but to stay with them. Luckily the dog kept her leg, but will probably always have a limp. Sorry, just hijacked Modgets post, but this practice really annoys me, particularly as they are such experts at publicity, there are always articles in the local papers about their wonder treatments, which are actually perfectly normal everyday ones

What you say does not surprise me in the least, sorry to say. Their Dad is a great vet, have a lot of time for him. If he said 'we'll go for it' you knew you were going to see light at the end of the tunnel but if he shook his head, you knew it was curtains; never knew him to be wrong even if people did take a second opinion, the end result was always the same and you wouldn't get a better 'stitcher' than him, he'd put a seamstress to shame, great sense of humour too! The offspring on the other hand have got far too big for their boots IMO even though we see a bit of them socially as they are friends with the neighbours and they are basically nice lads but I'm afraid they seem to have made making money the bigger part of their remit rather than client satisfaction!

RW is brilliant, agree with your daughter wholeheartedly; in fact if I could guarantee that he would always come to the horses I wouldn't have moved them but at the time he was big time at the large studs and had little time to spare for the likes of us! That's not meant nastily at all, just realistic as they were paying for his services and he can only spread himself so thin but I had little or no confidence in any of the younger ones at the practice at the time. Have to say, so far, I've been happy where they are now but I'm lucky in that Joey's owner does most things for me unless it requires serious surgery input. (he's worth his weight in gold!)
