Can anyone help? I am looking for a chaff to put my supplements (probalance) and linseed into. I need something that doesn't contain Alfa and isn't covered in sugar. So would mollichaff calmer or soneging like readigrass be better.

My mare is in medium work doing dressage and some jumping. Would this be enough to sustain her condition/energy levels. She is currently on 2 scoops pure working, probalance, salt and 1 cup.linseed per day. Im finding it difficult to store the pure working and I have to.order a lot to get it cheaper. So would like something similar to this.

LMR, you could try Saracen products. Excellent quality and they have an online store you can buy from, with free delivery.

Re-leve would be a good substitute for Pure Working. Same protein level but slightly higher DE, and a very balanced, low starch feed. You could also drop the Probalance so it might work out cheaper.

As for the chaff, they also have a wonderful product called Slim-Chaff which is alfalfa free but still has some nutrition from the included pellets. No molasses! I would email them as you probably can feed less Re-leve if you're feeding some Slim-Chaff.

I have had a.quick look at releve and it contains mollases and Alfa. 2 things I am trying to avoid. Thank you for.your suggestion though.

This. I won't touch Mollichaff with a barge pole b/c it sends Kali round the twist . . . even the Mollichaff Calmer.

Graze- on and Ready grass are only grass aren't they? No alfalfa and no added sugars, only those you would find in grass. Mine love the graze-on and it seems tasty enough to use when adding meds or supplements. You would just need to dampen slightly to ensure any powders stick.
Beware of things with nuts in as they can often contain things that you would prefer to avoid!

Mollichaff anything will have both molsses and alfalfa unless it says otherwise. If you want to avoid these two Readigrass is just ryegrass chaff and Graze-on is a mixture of dried grasses. You could also use oatstraw chaff or Graze-on Gold which is a mixture of dried gass and oat straw with soya oil, if you want more calories.

Look at the Halleys range; they have a website. Options include unmolassed, alfalfa free and I'm pretty sure you can buy online.

I like readigrass, of all the grass chops. I soak it in warm water before feeding a handful or so, just to mix in the other stuff.

Is there anywhere you can get plain chaff?
The stuff you used to get years ago in a hessian sack. Cheap as chips and I think farmers used to do it themselves. There were never any labels and it was always available.

I only need something to bulk up some hard feed and make them chew.

You could try plain straw, as long as you're balancing for nutrients elsewhere. And you can chop it yourself to required length

You could also drop the Probalance so it might work out cheaper.

Don't be tempted to drop the Pro Balance; the mineral balance in conventional feeds won't provide adequate levels or copper, zinc etc.

You could try fast fibre and up the linseed for extra energy. Otherwise I'd go for grass nuts/grass chop.

The Mollichaff Calmer definitely doesn't have any alfalfa in :)

Why do you think it does? Worked out alfalfa and peas sends mine insane. So trying to find feeds free from both of these..... More difficult than it sounds when he needs a high calorie feed that won't heat him up :o Just ordered a bag of this as a replacement for the chaff with alfalfa in he's currently on.

You might find that when you remove the alfalfa from his diet, he holds his weight better.
We fed speedibeet, grassnuts and Graze-on successfully to our elderly cob who had a tendancy to drop weight.
