Which would be better for a porky ponio? Toff is in during the day and has 4lbs soaked hay in a small holed net ( about 1 slice) and 1kg Hifi lite to give her something to munch. She is out at night on a bare paddock carefully strip grazed (tiny amount of grass each night) and a bit of hay and is losing weight and looking better (and happy which is hard for her when on a diet!!)
I have been using Hifi lite for a few months but after looking at the info on Mollichaff it appears to be lower in protein % wise and also digestable energy BUT lower in fibre %. It also doesn't mention the laminitis trust. Does anyone use this as a hay replacer? Would it be better as lower energy?
She has a small feed twice a day too, mainly for supplements

!
Opinions please!

I have been debating a similar question recently - mine is on Mollichaff as she only has a handful a day, but would Hi-Fi Lite be better for her? I'm going to try a bag of Hi-Fi when I run out of chaff and see if I notice the difference in price (£3 to £7!).
However, I personally wouldn't use Mollichaff as a hay replacer, or indeed in large quantities. It has far more molasses in it than Hi-Fi and I doubt the Lami Trust would approve it. I'd stick with the Hi-Fi if I were you!

Thank you! I always thought the same however was confused when I read the analysis of the feeds as the Mollichaff is lower energy etc but as has been said, Hifi is probably better as very little mollases compared.
Thanks all!

OMG there must have been some accidents with those. I reckon the last time I used one I must have been 10/11 ish. One of us used to feed the hay in, the other one would turn the handle and generally the 3rd person would throw pony nuts/poo etc at the first two.

I was confused as to which would be best Dengie Good Doer or their Hi Fi Lite. I contacted Dengie to ask and they thought that the Hi Fi Lite was best in these sort of circumstances.

Did they give a reason why?
As I understand it, Good Doer is their lowest energy chaff, and it certainly sounds more interesting than the Lite, which my pony hated unless it was mixed with speedibeet

mollichaff now do a molasses free, laminitic trust approved chaff

high fibre alfalfa its called.

*cough* Marksway do have a new product called HoofKind which is meant to be better for the laminitics, but it isn't Lami Trust approved. You may have it confused either with Dengie Alfa Beet (unmolassed sugar beet, Lami Trust approved) or Dengie Healthy Hooves (low molasses chaff, also Lami Trust approved).

Another Happy Hoof advocate here, slightly molassed but laminitis trust approved. My mare really likes it and it smells really nice, she has a handful just to have her vit/min supplement in.

Thanks all for the advice. Think I will stick with the Hifi Lite as her partial hay replacer. She has Happy Hoof for her tea already

(well for her supplements!)

Do you know if this is similar or a replacement for their feel good?? I have used feel good for well over a year which my horse has done well on but when i went to get a new bag of feed they didn't have any feel good but had this hoof kind which i got instead. It sounds very similar.

hifi definately.
i found happy hoof put weight on my mare, although she did love it!(its higher energy than hifi/lite and good doer and you have to feed quite a lot of make sure they get the mineral and vit content!).she gets topspec comprehensive with her hifi lite
i think good doer is very low energy too.
