Thank god he has been retired, sick to death of seeing Venetia Willams with her fancy coats, dipping into the well with this horse. He should have been retired 2 years ago.

Im also glad he has retired after all he owes nobody anything, the decision to retire him would have been the owners although VW would have had an input Im sure.
She is not a trainer that I have a great deal of respect for I am affraid.

I visited her yard with the Elite Racing Club. It was the depths of winter and the vast majority of her horses were turned out for a few hours a day.

I watched her staff turning out/catching in numerous filthy horses and then putting them straight. How many other yards get their horses out on a regular basis.

I do think how the horses look on the racecourse can be off putting with their chaser clips and long manes though.

Changing the subject - Monets Garden looked fabulous at Aintree today. He was nearly lost, great credit to his owner to bring him back to health and a happy retirement.

Gosh I rem that! So glad that he doing well now! :) damn I missed it tho

Seeing Monets Garden being paraded was wonderful, considering 2 vets wanted to put him down but his owner insisted they try and save him and was testament to the love and care by all concerned. He looked a picture and Comply and Die looked very well also and on his toes. I would have liked to see more of these old favourites but Channel 4 have missed a great opportunity IMO.

Agree with justabob, as the trainer she should have told the owners that he was not the horse from 2 years ago and let them waste their money entering him races he had no chance either being in the first 5 or just lately being pulled up and the owners not being able to see he was no longer the horse able to compete in such races. EGOS!!!!!

How do you know she didnt tell the owner that he was a light of his former self but the owner perhaps wanted to see out the season before retiring him.

Not saying this horse's retirement wasn't long overdue, but fact remains, Mon Mome was 3rd in a race in January of this year and there were quite a few more than 3 runners!

Daft little story but my nickname is "mone" and a few years ago my husband wanted to bet a shed load of cash on Mon mome (as he decided it meant "my mone").

Needless to say the accountant in me talked him out of this risky bet.

Yes, it was the year he won 100 to 1 :( I lost oh over a grand!!!!! Still get dirty looks every year when putting the national bet on!!!

Enjoy retirement Mon Mome, glad you're getting home safe :-)

Not quite sure what to say to the OP, but have you ever worked in racing?? Monney is still as fresh as ever at home with no signs of his age and ran a great race at wincanton earlier this year with our conditional jockey.

Re chaser clips and long manes, our horses are always plaited at the races and we pride our selves in winning many best turned out against yard who are fully cli[pped. (I have won quite a few this season already) and im sure anyone would prefer a horse that goes out everyday to have a chaser clip not fully clipped.

Im not trying to get at anyone but working alongside this horse everyday for the past 7 years and another 99 like him its a subject thats close to my heart.

Glad he's been retired, wonder what he will do now?

I had him in the office sweepstake when he won at 100-1, should have put a proper bet on!

Agree that both Monet's Garden & Comply or Die looked fantastic, wish they'd shown more of the parade they were in :(

Also like seeing the parade of past National winners, would like to think they will show it like BBC did but won't get too hopeful!

I saw his last race in March where he was pulled up at the back. I had a few tears then (soppy I know!) so I am very glad he has been retired safe and sound :)

I've never heard anything of VW who would put me off her as a trainer and if she does turn her horses out regularly then I admire her for that. Robin Dickin (trainer of restless harry) turns his out every day as well and any trainer who does that I bow down to them.

Glad Mon Mome is retired like I said he owes nothing, hope he gets a great home (wouldn't it be lovely is his lass got him) but as long as he's enjoying himself I don't care.

Goodness me I enjoyed that too - as I thought that Monets Garden was dead......Much nicer to see those old chasers parading than Kauto Star having to do dressage, I thought....And Venitia and her coats? What is going on there?
