money gone missing.. help

Is funny, if this had happened to me I would not have assumed that my sharers had not paid more that the money had gone awry. Have a good check and ask your sharer to double check with her friend, but if it goes once, it could rather horribly suggest that someone else has taken it. In which case I would feel justified in then suggesting a DD or similiar to protect all.

not sure what you mean here? also whats a DD lol?

Sorry, so a DD is a direct debit. I meant money gone astray either by accident or a 3rd party.

sorry i read that bit i put in bold wrong, i get what you mean now haha :o i know, i just dont want to think that the girl would steal, not in her nature at all. and nobody knows that we put the money in there (to my knowledge anyway) so i dont think anyone else on the yard would just go in and take it

Well, if the money was left secured under an object and in a box it couldn't get up and walk away, so someone knows what happened to it I'm afraid.

What has getting your 'share' money and paying your livery got to do with anything? If you can't afford your livery then I question whether you you should have a horse. If your sharers quit what would you do? Start taking responsibility and ask for a weekly or monthly check that can't be lost or mais-placed.

I think if it's over a certain amount it charges you - I'm pretty certain it charged me after I sold some pretty expensive riding boots. OP if you don't want to go down the bank transfer route what about getting a piggy bank or slot box with a padlock on it and keep it in your locker?

what  when did i say i couldnt afford my livery? im pretty sure my sharer would also be annoyed to know her money had went missing, the girl even offered to give me another payment and i said no! the point of my sharers is that im at uni and have a job so i cant get to see my horse as often as i like, nothing to do with not affording it thanks!

If your account is not verified it charges you for everything.

just saw this, not a bad idea at all, if sharers dont want to do transfers ill do this :) thanks!

Harsh and unfair. If you are on a budget, like most of us are and are anticipating certain monies coming in, it is most unhelpful to lose it with no notice.

Tell her what's happened. I'm a sharer and do a similar arrangement. I would want to know if it had gone missing to rectify situation one way or another. Do say something, though. It'll fester with you otherwise and there may be a reasonable explanation.

This.

My friend and I when we used to share the yard would leave any money hidden in a bag or envelope in the chaff bin (mixed in with the chaff so it couldn't be seen!)

It was only us 2 but we always worried if someone broke into the tack room they would take it if they found it (it was normally money owed for feed, or for the farrier if the other was holding the horses that day etc)

Anyone could have seen your sharer, their friend or even you putting money in / taking money out of the tack box. We all read the threads about nightmare livery yards where expensive bits, tack and even saddles have gone missing so some cash left unsecured is an easy target.

sharer knows :)

very true but our yard only has 5 liveries and we're all quite close knit, i know its possible that someone took it but im just completely in denial haha :(

Someone has worked out that there is often a sizable amount of cash in your box and there is time for them to take it without being seen. I would be very wary of leaving any cash there in the future as even if it's in a locked box they will be able to bring tools or take the box away to open it.
I also wouldn't assume it was the sharers, any other livery could have been looking to borrow something from your box - we know that happens.
Either hand over the money somewhere else entirely or go the bank route.

Just out of interest how do you know it is this specific sharer's money that has gone missing?have you checked that the other sharer had definitely left the money when he said he would? Just a thought ...

yeah i definitely know. first sharer text me on the tuesday to say he had left his, i was up on the thursday and collected it then. second sharer whos money is missing forgot to leave hers on the friday so told me she got her friend to leave it for her on the saturday, i was up on the monday and no money was there

Well, if everyone now knows the money went missing then all that's to be done is between you work out a secure way to leave the money in future. I'd also mention it to YO because if there's a thief about, they ought to be made aware. Then I'd just move on and forget it. Put it down to experience. :)

yeah definitely!

Oh ok sorry I just know what I am like sometimes at forgetting to get cash out!

im the same when its me that owes people money haha i know how easy it is to forgot, i dont mind if theyre late paying at all but i dont think its good for my sharer or me that money has just disappeared!

I expect that it HAS been stolen. Often the people yo least expect to steal, do so. I had a lovely girl here working for me part time. She was highly efficient and did an excellent job of everything I asked her to do. She was very quick too. And I thought, honest. Things began to go missing. Silly things like haynets and new rolls of electric fencing. Still I never thought it could be her. Obviously, it wasn't any of the liveries. Their horses were here, so why would they need things such as fencing? More things went missing that belonged to the liveries. Then one day she rang me to tell me she had been sacked from her other PT job at a tack shop for talking to customers about best livery yards in the area etc. But I thought nothing of it and kept her on. But then when more things went missing and I casually asked her if she had seen or misplaced them, I got a text from her saying she had a new FT job and didn't want to work here any more (obviously). Nothing has gone missing here since. Make of that what you will.

Set up a transfer at the bank. My friend did this when loaning her horse out. Never had any problems. Money went into her account on the day of the month they had both agreed on.

Surely this would be easier and more secure?
