Hi ,
im thinking of moving yards as the facilities are going a little bit down hill at mine. I currently pay around £350 a month in the winter (for full livery) and £100 over the summer (for DIY). Have small indoor, huge outdoor, all year t/o, x country course, regular unaffiliated shows etc. brilliant yard manager, not so great YO. The schools are in bad cond. at the moment and one cant be used (this isnt reflected by reducing the price we pay for the facilities)
I have seen 2 other yards, one which is £85 a week all year round for full livery and the other is £95 per week all year. Both of them are beautiful yards with amazing facilities and i know my ponio would be very well cared for. It's just the price that is scaring me.
Sor would you be willing to pay so much money for livery and have to really tighten your belt in other areas? Or, would you put up with average facilities and getting hacked off with the YO so that you have a bit more money spare?
I dont know what to do

help!
thanks xx

I seem to be on a very expensive yard as I pay £250 - £300 a month for DIY depending on how long the month is and what I have used. Admittedly we have excellent facilities with a massive indoor and outdoor, gallop track, farm ride and XC course and loads of shows and training clinics etc but would have to pay a whole load more for full livery.
I think you have to decide whether you can afford it or not, and if you can, go for it if you think it will improve both your and ponios life!

oh if only i had more than one option - livery yards around me are non-existent! Depending on what you want to do, if you are not too competitive and can make do with the facilities then stay and save the money but if you are anything like me and things eat away at you and you start not enjoying going to the yard as the school is bad and the YO is being stroppy then I would move. If like me you like to spend all of your free time with your horse then better to do it in nice surroundings where you will both be happy and you wont then have time to spend the money you were going to save!!

Gosh that is expensive (this coming from someone paying less thatn £100 per month for DIY - but no school etc)... It depends what you do? Do you need access to good schools, do you need full livery? if so, and the new yard seems nice, nice people, good turnout, well cared for horses - then go for it!

Crikey! I pay £120 for full livery with an excellent german trainer who schools my horse for me in the morning and then comes out and helps me ride her in the evening... we get one free lesson a week as part of that livery package... think Im into a better thing than I first imagined! We have an indoor school, outdoor menage and fantastic fields/ hacking, very informal but professionally run dressage comps once a fortnight and clinics on site.... I would only expect to pay about £120pm for DIY stable, including facilities!

I DO pay that much for livery and I DO tighten my belt in every other area of my life. Yes, it's expensive, but it is worth it.
