at Arena Uk last night was brilliant, anybody else go or going on any of the other tour dates??

I've not been to one before and it was so inspiring! The loader at the end was amazing, from a horse that would not load to walking in by itself....amazing!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, it isn't meant as a snide question, but a genuine desire for enlightenment: how do the bad loaders get to the demos? Did anyone say when you were there? I'd be interested to know - are they walked there? No real reason for asking except that it has bugged me for a while now (also I am very nosey).

I know what you mean, as i wondered exactly the same thing! Apparently the one yesterday took 6 hours to load for the demo and they only got it in as they sent a crew of people to help!! One of his demos the candidate hacked 50 miles to get there.......think this was in holland or somewhere!!

I took my bad loader....arab welsh chestnut mare (!)...... as a possible to be used at a Monty demo. It took the usual 2 hours to get her into the trailer using all the usual methods, food, lunge lines, crew of 5 people.

Monty decided to use her for the demo, and it worked. This was 2 years ago and she still loads like a dream.

I had a friend whose horse was a really bad loader and she was used in the display in Melbourne AUS. It took my friend about 1 hour to get her on each time they went anywhere. Poor little mare, her past owners said she had been loaded once and they went to collect some feed on the way home from a lesson. Rather then putting the feed in the front of the float the store guy through it over the back, as he thought the float was empty. SHe went beserk, obviously thinking something was attacking her. Monty got her on, then on the way back from the show it only took two attempts. They practised what he said and she now loads perfectly!!

Hubby and I went last night. Was very interesting to watch. I loved Pie - i did consider kidnap but he wouldn't fit in the car! The bad loader demo was fasinating but then so was the rest. A touch too "amercian" at times for me but really amazing to watch.

I saw KM a couple of years ago in Wales, quite interesting. Everything that was done just seemed plain, ordinary, common sense that was nothing different from the things I have been doing for donkeys years. The main comment I heard from people around me was "That makes sense, why didn't I think of that?"

The loading, ditto, if we all had the fencing panels and a crew to move them in, our difficult loaders would go in too, it's back to common sense and, in the case of loaders.........having the time, facilities and help.

I saw him when he rode and worked cattle with Dually (Think it was at Stoneliegh)
He used to load without panels but I think Health and Safety stepped in on that one.
I hear a lot of "Common Sense" statements unfortunately I don't see it out and about.

I went and watched as well, haven't seen Monty since the late 90's. Am I the only one who can't really see what the fuss is about? Join Up, OK, but not very subtle, I've seen other western-style horsemen get just as good results without pushing the horses so far. The ridden stuff was interesting, Monty seems to be a good western rider. Kelly was nice to see on Pie, but not really exceptional compared to many others you see at demos. It's nice to see bitless riding, but I don't see a lot of difference between a firm contact in a Dually and a firm contact in a bit. As for the loading panels, well most of us could get a horse in a box if it's hemmed in by a load of helpers with panels. I don't think that has anything to do with Health and Safety, as so many other demonstrators are allowed to load quite happily without panels - like Parelli, Rashid, Peace, Maxwell to name a few. I thought the panels might have more to do with expediency.
I'm not meaning to put the demo down, it was very interesting, but it just occured to me that maybe the people who were blown away by it need to "get out" more. There are a lot of very good horsemen in this country and also some who visit here from other countries, to me Monty isn't among the best. I was entertained but certainly not blown away.

I bet that horse that hacked 50 miles or so was so nackered that he loaded stright away to get back to his stable for a kip for a few days...LOL

Going to see him tonight. Having been to a couple of previous demos I have found him to be a bit too much of a showman. It is really best to study what his body is doing whilst he is talking or you miss a lot of his communication with the horse.
