I bought one when I went to one of his demos and would like to use it instead of a whip but it has no effecton my horse, does anyone use them and can tell me how to use it with effect,or is my horse just so laid back that it will always be ineffective.

I don't have the 'proper' whip whop but I use a leadrope with the clip cut off.

I use it on the quarters/behind the leg and it worked very well on my mardy mare who resented the whip.

Not sure how you are using it but I pretty much treat it and use it like a normal whip (except I don't get bucking with this :))

I havent got one but use my reins over the neck which seems to be effective - I thought you just kinda swung it over the shoulders or behind the leg so that eventually all you need to do is lift it up. I found with using the reins all I need to do is lift them up and my horse goes forwards now!

I just use a short whip turn it upside down and wave over his neck, and have found it brilliant for getting him forwards.

If you hold the 'handle' of the wip ***, and then fold it so that you also hold it about 1/3 of the way down, that's how I find it easiest to use. You can either swing it against your jacket so that it makes a noise to encourage your horse forwards, or use it either side of your horse's shoulder, or behind your leg, or on your horse's quarters, or a combination of all of these, whatever's most effective for your horse.
It's the 'intent' with which you use it that makes the difference. Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Associate Rosie Jones described it once as like putting electricity into the move (in a good way of course!).
Hope this helps,
Sue
