Reading the post in New Lounge re: 'Films that make you cry' reminded me of this book by Mike Tomkies

Has anyone else read it? I lent my copy to someone years ago and never got it back. It is out of print but I have just ordered a second hand copy from Amazon.

It's the true story of Mike Tomkies and his GSD. It made a great impression on me when I first read it in the 1980's. Highly recommended (but heart breaking) to GSD lovers if you haven't read it.

This is a seriously old thread so sorry for that.

I read Moobli over 20 years ago and have read it numerous times since then - it is one of my favourite books of all time (and I weep buckets every single time). I have two copies, one of which was signed by Mike (the author) when we met up after have many interesting conversations by telephone and letter over the years.

Mike inspired me with the books written while living a spartan existence in a tiny cottage in the Scottish Highlands, photographing and writing about the elusive wildcat, pine marten, golden eagle and the other wildlife he spent years studying with only his trusty German shepherd for company. I was lucky enough to meet the man twice but unfortunately Moobli had long since died.

I am sad to say I recently received the news that Mike passed away on the 8th October 2016, at the grand old age of 88 years. What a wonderful long life - and what a life! I am sure his spirit will remain in all the wild places that he loved and that Moobli will have been waiting for him.

That is sad news, but what a wonderful life he had. (And I've just realised your previous user name :) )

Yes! I forgot the password for my old account! In fact, do I need to ask for that name to be closed - or affiliated with my new username? I wouldn't like to be banned for having two accounts!
