One of our ponies has always been a bit grumpy but it has been limited to pulling faces in the stable. She has never caused any harm until now. In the past week or so she has become even more grumpy and actually started to try to bite anyone who goes near her.

Her jockey is a trusting 10 year old who loves cuddling her ponies and can't understand why one of them doesn't like her anymore!

Does anyone have any tips or ideas for dealing with a moody little mare.

Thanks

Is she in pain at all?...has something changed in her stable or has someone different had contact with her in the last week or 2 that has been negative? if nothing is wrong maybe she isnt being worked enough or has spent alot of time in the stable?? hope this gives you a few ideas

It sounds like the mare is unhappy and probably in pain. Is she stabled for long periods of time? She could be more grumpy due to being in too much.....or...are people only going in there to tack or rug up? If so something will be hurting her. I thought my mare was a B***H until i discovered she had a shoulder injury which was painful for her every time she was ridden. I would suggest you ask your vet to come and have a look at her as there will probably be a good reason as to why she's turned into a rat bag!

Good luck

Hi

Its actually my niece's little pony. Nothing has changed in terms of her routine. She is out all day and brought in at night.

She is kept with my sister's other two and not fretting or anything. My sis was going to try one of the calmers aimed at mare's but since having our chat today, she has decided to call the vet. I think she could be in pain. She is weeing a lot ATM. The vet is coming on Thursday so hopefully we will find out if there is anything wrong with her.

Don't you just wish they could talk occasionally
