Can anyone tell me about this bit? (Picture here: http://www.old-dairy-online-saddlery-shop.co.uk/acatalog/3836moonlink.jpg )

Am I right in thinking that it is basically a double-jointed, ported snaffle? (Which I have been searching for for months with no success

Horse has a big tongue in a small mouth and have always used ported bits with her. Pelham when I first had her as she was a little half-wild poobag, then a downgrade to kimblewick, now four years on more than happy in a snaffle but I've been looking for a ported one for aaaaaages and not found one (until now?)

I've got a loose ring sweet iron one of those. Can't for the life of me remember where I got it but mine go really well in it. I'm not sure it's dressage legal though, if you were going to compete in it.

I've got something simillar to this - ported snaffle basically but the joints between the port and the side bars are really unusual - it is more like a tongue and grove style joint which has almost 100% rotation. (can't describe it any better)

My horse goes AMAZING in it - struggled with her for ages as she has a Welsh Cob tongue in a TB mouth but this has revolutionised our schooling. People have commented on how much better she is in her mouth, she is developing a topline, reaching into a contact, she no longer hangs on the left rein.... totally different horse really. I dont know if it is dressage legal but can't see why it shouldn't be and intend to use it for dressage up until point where someone says something.

I've never seen one like it before and looked all over the internet for it. My mate bought in a bag of bits one day as she was having a clear out and there it was. I live in constant fear of losing it cos I think it is irreplacable. complete wonder bit IMO.

Brilliant, thanks for your comments - it should be arriving in the post before christmas

I have little desire to get properly into competitive dressage so it's not a problem if it's not legal. Just hope she respects it as much as the curbed bits
